[edit - Reading through my post I had the idea of putting my WIN/LOSS in a Spoiler box. Something I wouldn't mind seeing more of as like to read through these posts without knowing the end result...]

DATE PLAYED: 13th of January 2008
SCENARIO: M&M Sealed event
POINT TOTAL: 300
PULLS: Beast (FC), Iceman (FC), Box, Bishop, Gorgan, Iceman (vet), Gambit, Jean Grey (AOA), Arcade and Zombie Iron Man (yay, a SR I needed), as well as Streak of Luck and Captain Universe
TEAM: Gorgan, Bishop & Gambit
BATTLEFIELD CONDITIONS: None
SPECIAL OBJECTS PLAYED: None
WIN/LOSS:
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
3-0

Only four of us turned up, but it did mean we all got to play each other over the course of three rounds.

FIRST ROUND:
The first team consisted of Hulk (grey), Jean Grey (AOA), Cyclops (FC) and a Val Cooper pog. He had a Malice BFC, which made me regret not playing any of my other mutants for a theme, instead of Gorgan. As a result of Malice I left Gorgan in the start area on the first turn, so his first turn immunity could soak the Malice. But he was slow moving up, as he wanted Banner to hulk-up before putting him in harms way, as a result there were two turns where I wasn’t able to attack, so I Maliced Gambit onto his Psychic Blast and Bishop onto his Outwit. With that done Hulk’s damage reducers counted for nothing and we tore him apart. Without the big bruiser the rest of his team wasn’t far behind. It didn’t help him that his dice were cursed to roll exactly one less then he needed.

WIN-LOSE: 1-0

SECOND ROUND:
This team had Strong Guy, Ahab, Miek & Dazler. Again I faced a Malice BFC, but after working out my way around it last game I was more confident facing it. Again I left Gorgan in the start area on the first turn, so his first turn immunity could soak the Malice, and this game was faster paced so I only Maliced Gambit (but did later Push Bishop to avoid Malice). This time I decided the biggest threat was Ahab, as he could see Gambit, so we quickly took him out, I followed him up with Dazler to remove all his range, then Gorgan tied up Strong Guy whilst the other two shot him down. Miek did try charging gambit, so he fell to my rain of fire before we returned our sights to Strong Guy. Guido put up a valiant fight but was no match for my range and Outwit.

WIN-LOSE: 2-0

THIRD ROUND:
The final team I faced was from someone who’d had some poor pulls so he ended up with an under-costed team of Colossus & Box (but at least he got to try out Colossus, which he wanted to do…) . Thankfully no Malice BFC this time So we both moved up to face each other. Again I used Gorgan as an expensive tie up piece, and again I took out the ranged piece first with Gambit & Bishop joining the assault on Box. Box managed to breakaway and munched on some objects. With him nolonger in the firing range we blasted Colossus into molten slag instead, and then hunted Box down too.

WIN-LOSE: 3-0 And without any casualties in all three games (though Gorgan always ended up wounded…)

So got Esme Cuckoo, the LE I wanted most from this set. Yay.

SCENARIO: M&M Sealed Event
Point Total: 300
Team: Leader, Omega Red, Iceman. Total of 300pts

FIRST ROUND: Im up against Brood, Shatterstar, Box and a Maverick. We both roll 8 for a starting roll and re-roll. I roll 3 and he rolls doubles, so he's starting. Brood runs straight forward carrying Maverick. Box picks up heavy object and runs into the bushes. I move my Leader on top of an object and Iceman diagonally four squares away from Leader. Leader Outwits Box's Charge. Omega Red runs into the bushes. Brood and Shatterstar run into close combat with Omega Red. Maverick RS Iceman. He rolls double 6s but Leader asks him to re-roll. Maverick rolls 3 and thus misses. Iceman RS Maverick back with Incap. Iceman hits. Omega Red attacks Shatterstar. I roll double 1s and re-roll, i get double 1s again (just my luck ). Leader clears. Brood, Shatterstar and Box clears. Leader shoots Shatterstar and hits him for 2. Iceman and Omega clears. Brood attacks Omega but misses. Shatterstar attack Omega but misses. Maverick attacks Leader and hits. I move the damage to Iceman. Box runs with the object close combat with Omega. Omega attacks Shatterstar and hits him for 7. Iceman shoots Maverick but misses. Leader clears. Shatterstar regens and rolls 6. After that it was all downhill for me... All i got from him was Shatterstar.

SECOND ROUND: He's playing Mimik and High Evolutionary. He made some bad mistakes like HSS'ing on Leader's range and Omega's Charge range. Mimik died with couple of blows. Evolutionary was kinda annoying but he didn't do any damage to anyone.

So, I won myself a pretty Esme

POINT TOTAL: 300pts
SCENARIO: Only M&M
TEAM:
"Zombies!"
Cosmic Zombie Wolverine
Zombie Giant-Man (with Outsmart & Inside Info)
Zombie Spider-Man
=300pts

BATTLEFIELD CONDITIONS: Malice, Deep Shadows
SPECIAL OBJECTS PLAYED: None
WIN/LOSS: 2-1 (or 1-1, +1 bye)

First Round
Up against Green Scar, The Hood and Pete Wisdom. Played Malice. My opponent didn't play any BFC. Since I played Malice I pretty much waited out my opponent pretty close to my starting area. Giant-Man outwitted Green Scars move and attack so he had to use a couple of rounds getting in close combat with the giant. Wolverine KOed Pete while the Hood was taking Malice-damage and taking pot shots at Giant-Man. Wolverine then tried to hit Green Scar and crit missed. Green Scar responded with a crit hit and I thought the game was lost. Wolverine however landed on the sweet 11 attack click and now out of range from the green giant. The Hood died from Malice and Spider-man moved in to fight the Hulk. It came down to lucky miss for me (as he needed 5 to hit) and Spider-man and Wolverine survived with 2 click left each.

Second Round
Now facing Danger, Gambit, Marvel Girl and Agent Brand. I played Deep Shadows but forget to ignore it, and that was really, really stupid (especially with Danger on the opposing side). I don't think I would have won anyway but now I didn't get a hit and the only damage "done" was that Brand and Gambit pushed. Total wipeout.

Third Round
Didn't get to play

Think I ended up like last-place and the Danger-team won.

Overall it was really fun to play the Zombies and I love the Giant-man sculpt. I also got the fellowship Esme, so that was sweet as well.

At first, it was just me and one other player. The judge was just gonna have us play 2-outta-3, but a third regular showed up towards the end'a the 2nd game (and we're a pretty laid back venue...)

Round 1 (and 2): Green Scar and Shatterstar
Avenged my 1st round loss in the pre-release with two SOLID rounds against Green Scar. Through much more thought-out movement (than the pre-release) and outwitting Hulk's full-move-charge, Apoc didn't take a single hit from him, and was never even based in game 2. Cyclops took care of Shatterstar both times as well.

our other participant showed up juuuuust as game 2 was wrapping up.

Round 3: The Leader, Bishop, The Hood, and Dazzler with Inside Information
Apoc still out-ranged everyone on the other team and was able to outwit the Leader's PC/Outwit to make him more managable. Every one'a Apoc's attacks was a dual-targeted one, and he NEVER missed entirely.

wasn't exactly a normal tourney, but I'll take a 3-0 any way I can get it (they're rare for me).

Jan 13th - 300 pt Sealed
Brave New World (Newhall, CA)

What I played: (Keyword Mutant)
Colossus
Fabien Cortez
X-23
Pete Wisdom
BFC: Malice

Round 1 -- Opposing Team:
Mimic
High Evolutionary
Jarella

Fabien and C-los are a magic pair. Malice took its toll on the opposition and he was already frustrated because the Colts lost. He was able to get in a couple hit, but having the numbers allowed me to play aggressive and not just let Malice do the work for me. Swept him, but lost Colossus and X-23.

Round 2 -- Opposing Team:
Professor X
Chamber
FC Iceman
Cuckoo

He tried to position in a spot he thought would give him the most coverage with Charlie, but I got X-23 into a spot where all he could do was try and mind control her to get her to leave. Meanwhile C-los one-shotted Iceman thanks to help from Fabs. Things slowed down a little, but I kept in his face and eventually managed a hit on the high DV of Charlie in his late dial. I swept clean.

Round 3 -- Opponent's Team:
Box
Bishop
Gambit
BST Swarm

Yeah... I didn't even realize he was way over 300 until just now. It was literally his second time at the venue and his first tournament, but he'd managed to beat his friend in the first round and then had the bye for more teaching in the second round... and none of us had caught him being over 300... but there you go.

Anyways, he charged in on X-23 early with Box and then tried to keep some distance from the rest. I pressed in every chance I had and helped him out as much as I could to not miss opportunities to hurt me and he was open to my advice and willing to take some chances that gave him a fair shot on me... but Malice was working against him and in the end time ran out and I had everything, while I'd taken out Box early on and Gambit near the end.

So I won Esme #1.

How I won Esme #2 is a story for another time.

Thanks for reading, and to everyone who reports!

During the absolutely sad turnout of a mere 5 players for Esme this past weekend (sealed and floor IS killing the tourney scene) I went
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
2-1.

My pulls were...

Storm SR
Apocalypse SR
Chamber
Gambit
Ahab
Fabian Cortez
FC Cyclops
Brood
Maverick
Bishop
Streak of Luck
Swarm bystander

Team building was difficult. My options basically broke down to Apoc + Chamber + Streak of Luck or the team I went with which was...

Gambit w/ Streak of Luck
Ahab
Storm
Swarm
-------------
274 points

First round I drew the bye and played the judge. He used Marvel Girl, Colossus, & Unus. He moved Unus and TK'd Colossus adjacent. I moved my figs out and positioned Swarm in such a way that the only shot he was going to be able to get was on the pog (due to LOF issues to my figs). Not having any other options, he Charged Swarm who promptly made his Super Senses roll (Swarm made so many SS rolls throughout the 3 games that he was my MVP!). Once Colossus was nearby, my team pounded him to submission while Unus and Marvel Girl made their way up. Unus' 18 defense took a few rolls to crack but once I did, it was downhill. I won and only lost Swarm.

Second round I was up against one of the better players at the venue. He played SR Emma Frost, FC Beast, Box, Val Cooper, and another bystander (don't remember which). He kept Emma back and strictly used her for Mind Control while sending in Box and Beast to tie me up. I think I could have probably pulled this one out but I had too many crit misses at inopprotune times (Gambit crit missed before he had a token on the Streak of Luck feat and Ahab also crit missed when pushing on a shot against Emma ). Swarm gets mad props for again being a great tie up piece... holding Box and Beast in place for quite a few turns, even after Box became a giant. When the dust cleared I had taken out the pogs and Beast. Box was on his last click and Emma was untouched.

Final match I played against Omega Red, Spider-Man, AoA Cyclops, Janet Pym bystander, and something else (I think). Swarm ran out and tied up Cyke while Gambit and Ahab moved into position. Storm worked over Spider-Man. And for some reason my opponent left Omega Red hanging around in the background. I was able to polish off everyone quickly and then had to chase down Omega (who kept running). I finished this game without losing a fig.

Didn't win the prize, but traded with the fellowship winner for Esme (made a couple of other trades to just about finish off a second set of C/U/Rs from M&M). It was fun but I miss the days when we easily had players in the double digits.

SCENARIO: Mutations and Monsters Sealed 300pt

I pulled:
Gray Hulk x2
Strong Guy
FC Cyclops
Fabian Cortez
Dazzler
Fuzzy Beast
Ahab
FC Iceman
Pete Wisdom
BST Lila Cheney
EVD Civil War

Looking around I saw the people around me, and two had pulled Apocalypse, two pulled Zombie Iron Man one had also pulled Maestro, and three pulled gambit or other highly desirable figs and were settling on three fig teams by and large. I decided to go the other way and went swarm.

Theme: None
FC Cyclops
Ahab
Dazzler
Fabian Cortez
Fuzzy Beast
Total: 300pts

The plan was to keep Cyclops Dazzler and Ahab as a unit (with Ahab in back, Daz and Cyc up front) with Beast and Fabian a bit away (and hopefully out of enemy range) as support with beasts Perplex and Outwit and Fabians Power Amplification.

WIN/LOSS: 3-0

First Round:

Up against:
Box
Strong Guy
BST Janet Pym

I went up against one of the kids at the venue, but he was one of the sharper ones. His team seriously out-muscled me, but I counted on my range to save me. Which it did, apparently, the kid forgot that box had range, even though I reminded him of it almost every turn he was in range. Ahab would blast with psychic blast through Box’s defense and then a pushed beast would outwit and a Power Amplified Dazzler or Cyclops would blast. This took out Box but Strong guy was able to charge in and nearly KO Dazzler in one hit with an object. She made a break away roll and ran for the high ground. Strong Guy nearly one-hit KO’d half my team, but I always got lucky and made the break away roll to limp my injured figure to safety. I realized that Fabian had a ranged attack, so he boosted himself and took pot shots while beast based him and he finally went down. The fight didn’t last too long, but I used the remaining time in the round to show him how to better use his team (he went on to win his next two games, against a Marvel Girl/Apocalypse team and his Dad). I did learn some respect for strong guy, and will definitely watch for him on the future.

Win/Loss: 1/0

Second Round:

Up Against:
Professor Xavier
Box
The Hood

This was actually the last players Father, and an all round nice guy. I spent a lot of time trying to maneuver to a point where I could stay out of Chucks 12 range so I could RS Dazzler, Cyclops and Ahab in. Eventually I said to heck with the ballet we were doing and charged in. Everyone missed Prof X as he sat in hindering, but he rolled a 3 and missed me. After the Clear, Box moved into position and picked up a heavy object. Fabian boosted Cyclops’s Damage by 3 and Beast Perplexed up his attack by one, hitting the Prof and knocking him into his Astral clicks. Scared, he retreated out of range while box came up to One-Shot KO my Dazzler.

Beast pushed to outwit while getting close to the hood who was sitting in hindering taking shots to little effect, and Cyclops and Ahab made short work of Box, seemingly unable to miss with boosts from Fabian to their attack values. After Box fell, the hood was next and then I chased the good professor around a bit before a Range boosted Cyclops was able to Running Shot him down.

Win/Loss: 2/0

Third Round:
Up Against:
Storm
Bishop
Zombie Giant Man

I should not have won this round. I was out gunned and out ranged, fortunately the opposing player failed to use his characters abilities to their potential (He never used outwit) and left Bishop out of action for half the game. Storm almost took out my three primary attackers of her own, but after being based by Beast I was able to pin her down and KO her, Bishop stepped in and Giant man based my attack trio. My team focused on getting the giant off of them while getting blasted by Bishop. By the time Giant Man went down all I had left was Beast, Fabian and Ahab, all injured.

It was a pretty brutal back and forth, Bishop KO’d Beast and Fabian leaving Ahab blasting away at him. The game ended when my opponent declined to push Bishop and cleared. I pushed Ahab and Critical Hit for three damage, just KO’ing Bishop and leaving me on my last click. A hard won fight, and I know that if he had coordinated Bishop and Storm together (using running shot and 10 range) I could never have taken him. But hey, a win is a win and I have a Happy Esme to show for it!

Win/Loss: 3/0

Not a bad team, flexible, but reliant on running shot to move and still be effective, Oh yeah, and virtually no damage reducers. My MVP’s were Ahab with that beautiful Energy Harpoon of his and Fabian with that awesome special power that will see more play on my constructed teams.

Spoiler (Click in box to read)
3-0

Basic Idea was to have professor X declare Mutant and cerebro as many people as possible, Beast with Brilliant Tactician could perplex everyone except danger and cyclops. Beast and Professor X really helped me win, the double perplex was key.

Round 1 (God I hope I remember everything)

Batman and Robin Duo
OOTS Batman
+ Protected
Batman one million
Ultimates Iron Man
Green Scar
Silver Savage
Unus?
Emma Frost
Archangel
Time Trapper
Storm (C-Note version)
Professor X
+ Protected
Ultimates Captain America
Cap and Bucky
Gambit
+ Inside Info
Winter Soldier

There were so many figures to move, we might have only had 6 rounds total.

His storm managed to EE my Cuckoos, but didn't get another shot off, so most were 2 clicks in and still had PC. I managed to KO storm with Storm, I also got Iron Man. Archangel suffered a KO to keep most of his team busy, while Iceman kept silver savage and green scar incapped. Esme Mind controlled his professor X to Mind Control Green scar to smash silver savage with an object. Time was called just as I managed to to finish off Silver Savage. He Ko'd Esme and Archangel. I managed to get Iron man, Storm, and Silver Savage.

1-0

Round 2
I didn't think it was possible to make a theme for this game, I was wrong, as I faced the only theme played all night. Mutants. He had 20 characters, I'm going to try and remember all of them

Strong guy
Apocalypse
-Fort
-Nanoarmor
-Streak of Luck
Jean Grey
Professor X
-Protected
-Compel
Colossus
-Fort
Unus
Scarlet Witch
Beast
Dark Beast
Emma Frost
Dazzler
Fabian Cortez
Gambit
Cyclops
-Inside Info
Storm
Quicksilver (Avengers SR)
Iceman
Bishop

I can't remember anyone else. We both forgot to play BFC's this game

After the last game, I learned my lesson about cuckoos and storm's EE. This time, I made sure they always had a barrier protecting them. He suprised me though, using emma to up quicksilver to a 3 damage, and professor X to up Scarlet witch to a 3 as well and blow down 2 barrier tokens. He used beat to up dazzler to a 10 attack, and then had fabien try to perplex her as well, he rolled a 6, which effectively wasted beasts perplex. He RS's out and... rolls a 4. He rerolls and rolls a 10. I make him reroll and he rolls a 3. Just enough to hit one of my cuckoo's. He then missed a bunch of attacks, became mad and came right for my team. Between Contingency Plan and Emma, Esme the Professors and beasts perplex, I took a heavy toll on his team. KOing Colossus, Storm, Gambit, and Iceman. I think I had others, its just hard to remember with so many figures.

2-0

Round 3
Stardust
Silver Surfer
Ares
Scarlet Witch
Cuckoo x 4
Esme Cuckoo
Danger
Unus
Shazam!
Wonder Woman (NGN)
+ Terrify
2 Gun Kid
Winter Soldier
Mandarin

I think that was it. We remembered BFC's. He played Great Arena, I played Critical Strike (fun and potentially painful combo)

The store was going to close as soon as the round was finished, so all players tried to move as quickly as possible. Apocalypse got nailed early by Ares and surfer and wasn't a factor the rest of the battle. He ran and managed to regenerate back to imperv. Silver Surfer suffered a one round ko after his shot on apocalypse. He got hit for 6 (4 after inv) by storm, 4 by bishop, and finished off by gambit while on his last regen click. He rolled a critical on Jean Grey while there were 5 tokens on the Critical Stike card and she was on the roof. That was the end of jean. Stardust came out and missed an attack. Bishop got his attack upped to a 14 with a contingency plan, and damage to 5 and 6 cuckoo PC's later managed to roll a 3 and miss. Esme takes a hail mary with no PC left on either side, and manages to plink stardust for 2. Ares is hurting by this time and Mimic tries to HSS in for the kill, he misses and winter soldier knocks him onto a SS click. Mandarin also nails bishop, neutering one of my contingency plans. Two gun kid went down to black tom and gambit, while storm EE'd the Cuckoos. At this point time was called. He tried an RCE with winter soldier on Mimic which would have won him the game. He hits and I roll super senses. Game ends and I win

3-0

SCENARIO: M&M Floor - Week 6
TEAM:
AV Lambda-Zero + Streak of Luck (80)
JL Batman (75)
M&M Black Tom Cassidy (55)
M&M Gambit (90)
RECORD: 2-1

Well, no theme, but I really wanted to try out Lambda-Zero, so here it is! And he did remarkably well, too... though I personally didn't care too much about Incredible Hulk, so.

Round 1: Mimic, DR Angel, DR Colossus, DR Storm
Played a rather inexperienced kid with this team, and I just kept rolling what I needed. The stealth drove him crazy, and JL Batman is insanely nasty on the city map. Didn't take any losses, and whomped all over.

Round 2: HYDRA Theme: Red Skull, Super Adaptoid+Protected, E Hydra Trooper
A pretty good player that just did not get a break. Though I have to give him kudos for trying to use Super Adaptoid. If he pushed SA sooner, I could have had problems, but he delayed in that, and that allowed me to get into better position. The double-outwit nerfed SA pretty well, though I lost Gambit, and then I used Batman's OOTS to close in and smack Red Skull out of Stealth. From there, it was sniping with Lambda until I got the hit I needed against him to finish it off, though I did lose Batman in the process.

Round 3: Rampaging Hulk, AOA Jean Grey, Karnak
Championship round! And man, R-Hulk just bounded all over the place. He charged in and quaked after the L/C to smack Black Tom off of Outwit (after good positioning to stay out of LOS). Then, Bats got punched off his outwit, and it was just downhill from there. Streak of Luck did come in handy to finish off Karnak... but that was the only kill by the team. A Super Senses roll would have been nice, too. Needless to say, lost this one.

Rocket Raccoon of the Power Cosmic Clan!

DATE PLAYED: 1/12/2008, for Esme Cuckoo
POINT TOTAL: 300
SCENARIO: Sealed
TEAM: Gambit 90, Living Monolith 104, FC Iceman 60, Pete Wisdom 33 (Total 287 - Mutant Theme)
WIN/LOSS: 3-0

Round 1

I faced off against Professor X, Marvel Girl, and Unus, another Mutant theme team. I started on the side of the map with the big chunk of blocking terrain right in front of me, and after winning the roll, started edging my way around the right side of the map, with Gambit and Pete Wisdom providing a stealth screen.

He ran Unus onto the Elevated terrain in front of his starting area, taking a position next to a handy heavy object. Marvel Girl TK'ed the Prof out to the sidelines and he successfully Mind Controlled Iceman, but couldn;t do anything with him. This would start a trend, and both of us had a hard time hitting each other the whole match.

Everyone except Monolith on my team cleared. Monolith pushed to giant mode and took up position just out of the Prof's range. He cleared and I started my advance... Pete Wisdom and Monolith surged forward, with Iceman providing a handy Barrier to shield their advance. Meanwhile Gambit used his maneuverability to get into the hindering on the other side of Unus's position. Unus left his position to try to chase Gambit down and Marvel Girl took his place on the elevated. The Prof retreated behind the elevated since the Barrier blocked his LoS.

Monolith used his Running Shot to close in on the Prof and smack him down a notch or two, while Wisdom based the Prof to prevent any return fire against my giant. Gambit and Unus played cat & mouse, with Gambit making his way over to join the fight against the Prof.

Prof took out Pete Wisdom but took another hit in the process, and Marvel Girl smashed Iceman with a rock but he just ran up to take Wisdom's position basing the Professor. As time ran out, the Professor, now in astral form, finished off Iceman, but Monolith finally got through his supersenses and finished him. A close match, but I barely pulled it out.

Round 2

This time my opponent had Bishop, Morph w/ Inside Information, Morph, and Janet Pym. I think Pym was a mistake as he had a X-Men theme team without her.

I won the roll again and started moving forward much the same as last game. His Morphs flew straight ahead, one carrying Bishop to the elevated terrain and the other just flying straight at me with Pym.

Gambit ran ahead and tossed a card at one of the Morphs, taking him down a notch, and Monolith pushed himself to the side of the elevated terrain, out of Bishop's LoS. The two Morphs charged Gambit and beat the Cajun fairly badly, while Pym based Iceman, where she would remain an annoyance for several turns before Pete Wisdom finally got a hit on her.

Gambit had to retreat away from the fight with the Morphs, hiding behind an ice barrier for a turn to catch his breath. Monolith ran up on the elevated and moved close to Bishop, but ignored him in favor of shooting at the Morphs below.

Gambit ran away from Morph and his on the other side of the elevated terrain, ready to take potshots at Bishop if the opportunity presented itself. The Morphs closed in and took out Iceman, then turned to Pete Wisdom, but Living Monolith vaporised both of them. The giant restricted Bishop's fire and gave him no choice but to plunk away at it for 1 click of damage a turn, which just kept making Monolith more and more dangerous. Time ran out after Monolith blasted the second Morph, leaving Bishop alone on the tower with the giant while Gambit and Wisdom took turns sniping at him from stealth.

Round 3

Despite going 2-0, I entered Round 3 in 3rd place, my opponent from Round 2 clinging to a 4 point lead. My round 3 opponent was in first by 500 points after a pair of wipe outs, so my best chance was to score more than my last round opponent.

Again I faced an X-Man theme team: Bishop, Archangel, and 2 x Cuckoo. I won first turn again but deployed much more conservatively. Monolith and Iceman hung out behind the blocking terrain while Gambit and Wisdom moved forward a little into stealth, and waited to see what my opponent would do. He also moved slowly, trying to get both Cuckoos pushed to Prob Control before the battle was joined.

Pete Wisdom and Gambit really shined in this match, as the Stealth + EE was a lethal combo against the two Cuckoos. Archangel charged Gambit and roughed him up, forcing him to retreat, then charged Iceman and took him out, but in the mean time Gambit, Monolith, and Wisdom combined to finish Bishop off. The match ended with a slightly beat up Archangel preparing a final defiant charge into the teeth of my remaining three.

It was enough though, and I ended up securing Cuckoo by a narrow margin.

DATE PLAYED: 1/15/08

SCENARIO: Constructed 300pt

I played:
MM Gambit
+Warbound
MM Black Tom
+Warbound
AW V Psylocke
+Warbound
+Stunning Blow
+Inside Information
DR Storm
+Warbound
+Drag

This team was made as a MM Floor 50% 300pt team, but when I got to the venue they told me prize support hadn’t arrived, so they were just playing for fun. I’m on the road traveling and I found the place on Wizkids site and I didn’t know what to expect from the players. So, I built this team, Mutant Themed and taking advantage of the Warbound feat and full stealth.

WIN/LOSS: 2-0

First Round:

Up against:
R Green Goblin
V Punisher
AV Scarlet Witch (Ultimates)
AV Quicksilver (Ultimates)
And a pog, I forget which.

A newer play, but he had a pretty solid handle on the rules. I took out Scarlet Witch early and kept outwitting Quicksilver’s Hypersonic Speed. Staying in stealth, he couldn’t get to me, so he charged in and started swinging at Gambit. But he missed every roll and I wiped him.

Win/Loss: 1/0

Second Round:

Up Against:
E Magma
+Force Field
MM Ahab
+Lucky Break
AW E Scarlet Witch
MM Mastermind
+Mental Shields
+Some other feat I can’t recall

An experienced player who started the match by telling me how awesome Mastermind was. We jockeyed a bit for position, each trying to take advantage of stealth, till Ahab ended up in the open and Psylocke and Gambit tore into him while Black Tom kept outwitting his Energy Harpoon so her couldn’t target me at range. After he fell, Magma and Mastermind changed positions, so Storm and Psylocke based her in stealth while Gambit took out Magma. After Magma and the witch fell, it was simply a matter of time after basing Mastermind and pounding him with Psylocke and Gambit.

Win/Loss: 2/0

The third round was canceled since the judge said no one could catch up to me in points, and everyone was eating pizza and watching American Idol anyway. But I had a good time and made some great trades for feats I lacked, and it was nice to get out of my area and see how other places played.
Cap Lives!

POINT TOTAL: 800
SCENARIO: 4-Player Battle Royale
TEAM: Ultimates
BATTLEFIELD CONDITIONS: None
SPECIAL OBJECTS PLAYED: None
WIN/LOSS: -

Last night at our (mostly) weekly Heroclix home game we managed to play a game that we haven't been able to in weeks due to the small point builds of the recent tournaments, as well as the Holiday schedule which made it hard to get people together. It was a 4-player 800 point Battle Royale. It took 5 hours to complete. It was DC 1 Million Justice Legion Alpha vs. Ultimates vs. Green Lantern Corps vs. X-Men. This huge game reminded me why I love Heroclix so much because while it did involve strategy, it was mostly about superheroes beating the stuffing out each other. Here is a list of the cool moments that happened:
  • Seeing the Green Lantern ATA used to allow someone to hit SR Flash's 21 Def in hindering early game.
  • Ult Iron Man and Captain America being swarmed by X-Men and staying in the same two squares for 90% of the game.
  • SR Superman mind controlling Ult Hulk to flurry (with 11 Att/4 Dmg!) his teammate Iron Widow, killing her when she was only on her 2nd click.
  • Suffering 2 crit hits against and 2 crit misses by Ult Hulk.
  • Iceman casting Barrier as much as he could, including between Ult Hulk and some X-Men he'd based with his Giant adjacency, causing me to whimper "Why won't you let Hulk smash?" and "Hulk just want to smash, it Hulk's only ambition in life!"
  • Colossus fast ball specialling any and all weakened X-Men teammates around him, including (see next)
  • Watching Ult Hulk get killed by Colossus fast ball specialling a hurt DR Storm into him. Ult Hulk did not have a good game.
  • SR Superman winning the day with his back-dial HSS and damage reducers, as by the time we caught up with him, no one could hurt him!
Any game that takes 5 hours and then is won by SR Superman is a legendary. Those points I just listed are why Heroclix is awesome!

SCENARIO: 300 point M7M Floor 50%
TEAM: Danger, Ahab, & Superman Robot w/ Homing Device
BATTLEFIELD CONDITIONS: The Great Arena
SPECIAL OBJECTS PLAYED: None
WIN/LOSS: 2-1

All games were played on the City map

I'm the judge at my venue, but I bring a team every week in case we get an odd number of players.

I decided to use this team because we usually have an overabundance of stealth teams. I figured Superman Robot + heavy object + Homing Device would give Danger a chance a chance to attack something. It figures that this would be the week that there would be almost no stealth.

Round 1 I faced

Green Scar + Endurance
Meik

I got torn apart on this one. The first half of the game I couldn't make a single attack roll. I missed Green Scar with almost every attack. In fact he took more damage from Endurance than from my attacks.

Round 2 I faced
Silver Savage w/ Pummel and Protected
Wonder Woman (JL) w/ Pummel
Meik
3 bystander tokens

I played The Great Arena this round and he didn't use a battlefield condtion. This person is a fairly new player and I helped him as we were playing. He didn't use the terrain to his advantage and put Wonder Woman in a bad spot. I hit her with Ahab and Danger and then pushed the Superman Robot over to finish her off, but left him in a bad spot. Next turn he charged SR with Silver Savage an Miek and hit with both, them finished him of with an attack from the Swarm pog. After that he had a long walk to try and get to Danger while trying to keep away from Ahab. He pushed both SS and Miek to charge Danger and base Ahab but missed with both attacks. After that it just a matter of picking them off.

Round 3 I faced

Gambit w/ Nanobots
Iceman
Iceman (FC)
Marvel Girl

Finally a team with a stealth piece!. My first move I carried Danger and a heavy object with Superman Robot onto elevated terrain. He used Gambit's special power to running shot into hindering terrain while trying to attack Danger. I made him Prob it and he missed. After that I attacked Gambit with Ahab, then I hit him for 4 damage (3 base + heavy - 1 for Homing Device) with Supes Robot, them KO'd him with Danger since she could now see him. I ended up losing Ahab, but KO'd the rest of his team.

All in all this was a pretty good team, but would have been a lot better with Nanobots on Superman Robot or Danger.
