These Suggestions for KO'ing Starro/Anti-Monitor-
Edit: I don't know why I typed "these suggestions" for the header, I meant to say "any suggestions"?

I have been playing a few games against AM and he isn't that much of a problem to me, but I played a game agaisnt Starro and got decimated thanks in large part to his Starrophytes. Any suggestions(preferably theme) to take out Starro next weekend? What works fo you? Thanks in advance!

I've mentioned it in a couple threads, but here's what I did.

SR Spectre (Crisis)
U Jakeem Thunder (Origin) w/Stunning Blow
C Liberty Belle (Crisis)
E Dr. Midnite (CD)
U Sandman (Origin)
U Batman (Origin)

600 points-JSA theme.

I used this team for the week 10 DC Unrestricted. BFCs included Skyscrapers, Debris, Ordinary Day, and Deep Shadows. I saw someone running a Starro, so I saved the Deep Shadows. Went up against him round two. Used my theme team BFC cancellation to knock out Ordinary Day. I moved everyone in to position. I had Spectre use a Satellite Dish and Liberty Belle use a regular heavy. Admittedly, this guy was cocky, he moved up and let me have first hit. I managed to knock him down to an 8 attack. After that, it was a matter of prob control to make sure he didn't hit.

So yeah, knock out his range. Then put in some power hitters that push well and lots of prob control.

That sounds like an awesome team. I might have to try that one in a few home games. Where did you have Jakeem Thunder positioned? Did you have him follow Spectre around for the defend bonus?

So did the guy not roll to heal on his turn? I mean seriously. So you did 12 to him, minus 2 for invuln and then 1 for tougness so you did 9 total. So on his turn he could roll for the starrophyts, then multi-attack to either attack or mind control 2 figs to bash each other. Then he could heal. Even if he rolled a 1 and a 1 for the heal, healing 2, you still couldn't have KOd him the next turn and he would get to heal again and your guys would be pushed, so he could heal yet again. I don't see how he lost, unless he just didn't heal starro which is dumb

Spectre at the 600 pt level would probably beat Starro pretty badly...
I'll give $8 for most any clix, especially Super Rares.

Check my eBay tab there's good stuff on there!

I don't agree. I played against Spectre and beat him pretty badly at the 600 point level, and Starro, I have never beat head to head in a 600 point game. Spectre is a pushover and can be outwitted.

yea Spectre doesn't ignore stealth that's why him and Anti-Monitor are so much easier to KO than galactus or starro. Anti-Monitor is seriously not as good as some people seem to think as well, I've seen him get owned every time

I have seen him beat a few times also. Him and Spectre are not really on my radar for this weekend. Galactus and Starro are the two that I am worried about most.

I honestly don't know what to tell you about Starro. Being able to heal for free, you don't have to subtract anything from the result of the D6 for the heal, and once you get a bunch of those fish tokens on the board you can heal for a ton. Those powers are nuts. I think Starro against Galactus is a good match up. Galactus has a bigger edge with more clicks of life and higher damage values. But if Starro gets off a couple attacks and can get some good heal rolls, it definitely will be hard for galactus to do.

Actually I take that back. Starro was so hard to KO this past weekend because it was DC only. I personally have no DC Armor Piercings, only marvel. Also the DC only did not allow for Monster Hunter, which is HUGE in beating collosals. Something like this has a strong chance of winning:

Darkseid 210
Monster Hunter 3
Dawnstar 60
Monster Hunter 3
Dawnstar 60
Monster Hunter 3
Dawnstar 60
Monster Hunter 3
Chief 63
Tomar Ray 111
Monster Hunter 3
Prof Brun 3
Prof Brun 3
Leyla Cheny 6
Leyla Cheny 6

597 pts

Yea it's "cheesey" or whatever you want to call it, but it will work. You better pray for map choice - because my buddy that used Starro picked the prison map everytime so you had to go to him and he could make the fish tokens really quick before you can get to him.

This offers 3 perplex, 2 with 12 range so you can try and outrange him, also +3 to your attack from dawnstar, and +1 to damage from monster hunter. If they pick the prison map you can just hypersonic in with dawnstar, then back out. You could tweak the team by dropping 1 dawnstar, monster hunter, change 1 leyla chany pog to a Lois Lane pog and you could throw on V Red Tornado so you can get an attack off with darkseid that will be a 13 attack, 7 damage penetrating, and then just swarm in with the dawnstars to hit for more. This has a chance of beating starro, galactus, and about any other team you will face if played right

So you can do the top team or this:

Darkseid 210
Monster Hunter 3
Dawnstar 60
Monster Hunter 3
Dawnstar 60
Monster Hunter 3
Red Tornado 67
Chief 63
Tomar Ray 111
Monster Hunter 3
Prof Brun 3
Prof Brun 3
Leyla Cheny 6
Lois Lane 5

- 600

I personally only have 4 monster hunter cards so I'd go with the 2nd one. 2nd one is probably better anyway. You don't even need 3 dawnstars for the attack, mainly just a for a hypersonic run in and run out thing. The 2nd one is prob more rounded out. I wish there wasn't the cardboard cap, I don't think pogs should count because then you could drop Tomar for the FCBD Iron Man warbound to chief. But then you do lose 2 range and another perplex. Who knows hahaha. Good luck

I have I think, three Dawnstars and only two Monster Hunter cards. If I had a figure with EE and AP, is that one damage enough to KO the Starrophytes? I was thinking about playing the GL Corps team I played last week, it has a somewhat high damage output and they all are pretty tough to hit from ranged.

Sinestro 146
Hal Jordan 157 + AP + Protected
Kyle Rayner 182 + Protected
Katma Tui 89
Total 600

This team took down a colossal Spectre pretty quickly, I know Starro will be alot more tough but I really like the ES/D and the triple perplex on this one. But I also could and probally should use a couple Dawnstars though...shouldn't I?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far also.

Well Spectre can be the target of outwit, starro and galactus cannot. Destroying a fish token requires 3 damage - they are considered blocking terrain for destroying purposes. Starro is so hard to KO because of the ability to heal for free and put the fish tokens in play for free every turn, it's crazy.

I know, I have played against him before. I just wasn't sure about the Starrophytes needing three damage to be destroyed. Can I ask why the pog tokens on the second team??
