Human Ms. Marvel is girl who stays at home while her hot sister always goes out with the quarterback (or Linux-savvy nerd, whatev...). I just can't ever get her damage SP to work out. It seems that she just isn't quite the fig her Skrull version is.
And I can't get over the green.
But...Nightcrawler really has been my favorite character for years.
Huge Ms. Marvel fan and I am determined to make this piece work. She isn't as good as her Skrully cousin, but her Skrully cousin isn't Ms. Marvel! Defensively decent and damage is strong. A whole dial of Move and Attack pushes her cost too high, sadly. Starting HSS is great and thanks to the Alpha Flight ATA she can be more consistently threating. End-dial drop off is extreme but the biggest waste is the Energy Absorption SP - very difficult to pull off. Hopefully it doesn't cost her too much. 25 points cheaper and she would be a great figure - still, I am determined to make her work.
Carol deserves a lot more love than she's given, thanks to her more popular twin sister. I've put her to some use in my teams and she's certainly worth the cost. Hypersonic and Indomitable is a great combination, and unlike her sister Skrull Carol has a more lasting AV. If you're really worried about comparing her to the Skrull Ms. Marvel, try the Thunderbolts feat and your opponents will start to curse her just as much!
I've never had Energy Absorption work out, but what the hey.
If you're a modder, for the love of all that's good repaint that sculpt! It's just too bizarre-looking to have a skrully-Ms Marvel on your Mighty Avengers team.
Bad case of paying a hefty sum for a great top click then quick death after that. There are better and more consistent similar purpose bricks for the cost or less (and I'm not just looking at the Skrull version). Matter Absorption doesn't work out right ever and it's a big cheat even if it did, as, with the +3 modification capper, though there could be more absorption tokens than 3 on her card it'd be pointless; bah. Not that she'd still have the power after taking that many hits, but anyways. Don't care for her final few clicks with no damage reducers. If pieces like Sauron and Scorpion get toughness down the full dial then Ms. Marvel should be a shoe-in for it as well. I love the move and attack on every click but her AV still drops too fast for my likings at this cost. Great top click if you Tbolt her to Bat Ally to match her skrull counterpart but if she's taken off her top click she's not that impressive anymore. And if you're going to do all that you may as well just be using the Skrull I"m sad to say. And on the sculpt... just bring back the old flight bases if all they're going to do to make her flying look "dynamic" is have her standing on the dinkiest pebble they can find!
I think that this version of Ms Marvel is okay. Not spectacular but not terrible either. To be more comic accurated and worth the points, they should have left toughness for the remainder of her dial and had an upswing in AV towards the end too. In the comics, she gets p!55ed and starts kicking ### after taking a beating. That would have been more accurate to me.
I find the best use of her to be on large teams where she ends up as the secondary attacker. If your opponent is more worried about that Ares or Iron Man (or Kang for the soldier teams) then Carol may have a chance to actually do some damage. I wouldn't recommend her as the primary threat on your force, though.
I actually did get to use her Energy Absorption power once. Once.
"He's thrown a kettle over a pub - what have you done?"
I gotta defend my girl. Ms. Marvel is pound for pound one of my favorite figs. Yes Ms. Skrullvel has that dreaded stealth HS combo but for the modest outlay of 5 pts you can t-bolt her to BA and boom... so does she. It's furthermore comforting to know that a player who wants to knock this Marvel off of invulnerable needs to deal her 4 damage at the top. Her energy absorption is around for five clicks - all of which have damage reducers. I find it quite useful unless I've gotten myself surrounded. Sure she could have better defense toward the end of her dial and a couple more clicks of toughness would've been appreciated but her mobility and damage values make her a consistent threat. Throw a vine on the board, invite the Accomplished Perfect Physician along for the ride and let Carol remind you why Tony called on her.
She's worth her points if you can stay on that first click. Otherwise, she's points thrown away. And Energy Absorption, despite accurate, is terribly placed and will almost always be used only once, if at all.
Totally in agreement that you just about must keep her on that first click. With Indomitable though, she can make her worth on that first click. Thunderbolts can go some ways with her, but I almost felt it was wasted since I could just hit and run with her 2 turns in a row, and with some tie-up, really started wrecking some folks. I did like Contigency Plan on her though, it really did flow well with a structured team and the fact that she was able to stay out of harms way. Not as good as her Skrull counterpart, but really a decent piece I seem to get good results out of her. I just wish they woulda done human sculpts too.
