If you've been on HCRealms for a bit, you might have heard of a little thing called Clix For The Cure. In the past four years, myself and many other clixers have gotten together in the spring to help raise money to benefit the fight against breast cancer. Due to my friendship with many of the WizKids employees, I was able to secure some wonderful prizes for the players that have contributed significantly to the success of the event.
Since Topps has shut down WizKids, this year we are left with a quandry. We want to really have a great event since this will be the 5th anniversary for the effort, but our prize pool is looking a little slim. As such, I'm wondering if the talented modders of HCRealms will be able to help out this great effort. With that in mind, I'm announcing the first ever mod contest to help benefit a great charity.
Algrim has assisted me in the creation of this idea so he'll be the co-administrator of the contest. What we are asking is for modders to make a special modded figure to be sent to myself to be used as prizes for the event. Before sending the figure out, you will post photos of the figure onto the thread as your submisson into the contest.
This year we will be running two scenerios based around a Sentinal attack (for Marvel) and the Sinestro Corps Wars (for DC). I do not want to pigeonhole anyone into thinking that have to make any specific character but we'd love to have figures that go with those themes (mutants, Lanterns of any "color", giant sized generic sentinels...) to be used as prizes. One other thing to consider would be mods for characters that have not been made that are needed to fill team rosters (since there's still no clear indication as to when and if Heroclix will pick up production in the near future).
So what's in it for you, the contestants??
This year, ibeatdrew has agreed to create maps to be used specifically for the event. The winner will receive a copy of the maps, as well as bragging rights as the first Clix For The Cure mod champion. I'm also going to see if i can hook up the winner with a free years doner level here on Realms.
The contest will run until Midnight, February 16, 2009. That's a little over 3 weeks to get started. If you have an already created mod that you'd be willing to donate, feel free to enter it into the contest.
how many entrys can we submit?? the reason i ask is because i have an extra mod (i made two of him for some reason) and i may be able to do a new one just for this contest. B^)

Considering all entries will be used for prizes, I'd never put a limit on anything anyone wants to contribute. Enter as many figures as you'd like.
Interesting - I could probably whip up something. Even though it might not be winning-quality, it'd still be good to know that it was part of the CFTC prize.
Question: will the mods need custom dial and custom cards?
They will not... however, I'm encouraging any Judge who's player attends to allow any of these mods as tournament legal figures for any of thier local events (mainly in light of "Theme Team Rules"). I'm planning on printing up "Certificates of Authenticity" for all mods for the event.
Obviously anything that makes a figure stand out in the judging process will be a bonus to the submission.
I am glad to finally see this up! I can't wait to see the mods.

You know, maybe those who plan to enter the contest should PM DS-00-0 and disclose what they plan to make, so we don't end up with multiples of the same character.

I dunno, I don't see multiple takes on a character being a bad thing.

If people want to PM me thier submittion ideas, they would be fine. Like hair10 I don't see any concern with duplicate entries but like CustomCreator, I don't think we want 10 of the same one either.
In the interest of all, I'd say we should cap each character to 3 entries.
Is there a set date for the event yet this year? I just started a new job and it would help to give them ample warning before taking a day or two off. I will also make a modded character to share, even if they are no where near as good as some of the talent portrayed on this site. Is one of my Wildstorm mods alright?

Characters may come and characters may go, but it is the writers that make the stories worth reading or not.
