Sorry for the hiatus between matches 5 & 6, but was under the weather with the flu.
A while ago we had another musical showdown that featured songs with the same name but different writers/performers. They were one-offs and not done in conjunction with the Rock Wars. Please listen to all the songs, even the ones that you haven't necessarily heard before and then pick your favorites. Some songs may only have two competitors and some may have as many as four or five. I'll try to weed out the pretenders from the contenders.
Our sixth match-up is Since You/You’ve/U Been Gone:
There are a lot of songs on this one, but this will make for a nice time killer while you're working or blogging or whatever it is you do. Just sit back and listen. Give each song a chance, then decide.
In the immortal words of DTM - "So what say you all." Who will be the winner in this latest match-up of Same Name/Different Song? Rank the songs from favorite to least favorite as there'll be a points system to decide winners & losers. Also, if you like, put in comments about the songs - good or bad, it's all cool.
As always, if you have suggestions for future match-ups please list those in your reply.
upcoming titles so far:
#7 - Come Together
#8 - Hold On
#9 - Low
#10 - All Night Long
#11 - Dreams

“No! Please! I'll tell you whatever you want to know!" the man yelled.
"Really?" said Vimes. "What's the orbital velocity of the moon?"
"What?"
"Oh, you'd like something simpler?”
What's up with the ads on YouTube all of a sudden?
I'll go with this:
1. Rainbow
2. Four Tops
3. Kelly Clarkson
4. Theory Of A Deadman
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Killraven, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
Rainbow is just too strong for the competition (thanks for that version, btw). Kelly Clarkson is good, not one of the Four Tops best efforts, and Theory of a Deadman is just weak.
Edit: Liked the Bobby Darrin version okay, and while I am not huge on novelty songs, the Weird Al was pretty funny, so I rated it above Theory of a Deadman.
Keep up with the list, Markrochip. I know that I am going to send in a song or two when a couple of these contests draw near. Have one for Hold On that I want to make sure gets in (in addition to the one I already made sure was going to be included), and another for Dreams.
That way VelvetGuru can make sure to include them.

Reason: Added the two songs that Markrochip mentioned
Please read below my list for some more cool "Sine You've Been Gone" songs! Here's my choices for this edition's songs:
1. Kelly Clarkson
2. Rainbow
3. The Four Tops
4. Theory of a Deadman
Some other cool songs that didn't make this list.
Aretha Franklin's "Since You've Been Gone" is pretty awesome. It's been covered by a slew of R&B and soul singers including Luther Vandross. Pretty darn good.
Also, a 50's doo-wop song by The Dreamers is some good listening. But here are two more songs that are both better than the Theory of a Deadman hymn for the boring:

I was going to use the Bobby Darin song, which I think was written by Ray Charles (need backup on that). In the end I Xed it because the quality of the youtube video seemed off. We had that happen with the Doors Ship of Fools and it wound up in last place because of quality.
Sometimes there are just too many artists that have written songs by a certain title. If you see that there may be a song and artist upcoming that you think should be represented, just let me know.
So far for the next match I have The Beatles, Kool & the Gang, Peter Tosh, Primal Scream and Third Day. I couldn't find youtube clips of the Isley Bros or The Crystal Method versions andI'm probably going to ditch the Third Day song and just go with four.
I'm always happy to add in a song before the matchup if anyone has a suggestion.

Ritchie Blackmore is my second favorite guitarist of all-time, so picking my #1 was easy. I think I'm going to follow Alien Flanders list because he hit it right on the nose.

2. Four Tops
3. Kelly Clarkson
4. Theory Of A Deadman

If we're taking our Jokers off the board and going for un-nominated tracks, I'm going to rank 'em this way:
1) Kelly Clarkson v. Depeche Mode "Since You Been Gahan"
2) The Four Tops
3) Rainbow
Eighty bajillion) Theory Of A Deadman - Seriously, just based on the name of the band, I knew what the chord progression of this song was going to be. I knew that it was going to start out ballady, before shifting to "rawk out!" mode at about the one-minute mark. And I could have told you that the lead singer was going to be affecting this godawful baritone that makes me hate Eddie Vedder a little bit, just for having provided the vocal inspiration for an entire generation of Nickelbacks.
I tried to rep for that Nickelback hate but I haven't repped enough lately.
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Killraven, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
Using the Bobby Darin There was an excellent Imperials version with this title.
I would have ranked Bobby Darin #2, the Imperials #3 and Weird Al just above Theory of a Deadman.
