Advanced, Macromedia flash help.
I am building a web based dynamic dial generator. I have the dial builder (built using cold fusion) done. I have the flash dial done, it autofills the colors and the numbers from the dial generator. It is vector based so it prints a clear crisp dial. The problem...
The vector graphics of Flash scale to the size of the piece of paper that you are printing to. Since it is vector it prints a nice full page dial that is VERY readable. I found a trick where you can set the specific FRAME that you want to print using #p in the frame label, that almost worked. It now prints a very nice dial about 3 times the size of the original dial.

If this project works people can come to my site, put in thier guy and print out the dial, with no graphics program what so ever. The only thing you need is an IE web browser with the flash plug in. BUT, I can't fix the print sizing! HELP! The dial is about 100 px by 100 px. Oh, I tryed to set the MOVIE size to 8.5x11 inches but Flash didn't buy it. It may be because there is no data outside the dial area, so nothing to print.

use a transparent rectangle to fill the rest of the area so that there's data?

Melk's way should work, you may want to make the swf as the exact size that the print should be.

you can also try flashkit for all your flash questions.

Well, I forgot to mention that there is one more problem with the 8.5x11 inch scaling of the page. If you have margins you would have to turn them off to print the page, I am also not sure that all printers actually can print to the edge of the page. So would "automargins" be a problem in printing the vector? It may just print off page in which case I am ok with that. But if it rescales the image again then every printer will print it at a slightly different size. I was HOPING that flash can fix the print size with some action script or setting that I have missed. But I will try the transparent or corner images tonight and let you know how that works out. Even if some of you don't know flash, ask your graphics developer friends if they know... I am soooo close.

I tried flashkit, thier tutorials are so horrid. I don't think anyone has updated the print tutorials stuff in some time.

Later that post... I just realized what you meant... Flashkit has a forum. Thanks I will try there!

And further down the road... I checked the Flashkit and the exact question is posted there by someone... no answer yet but I replied to keep the thread up.
