So I've posted a few maps over the past year, some marked off in squares and some with hexagons (You can find them at http://users.ev1.net/~leistiko/lemur...s/heroclix.htm ). Here's a question for those of you who've tried the two different types of maps:
Do you like playing on squares or hexes more? Why?
Me? I like the hexes. It might come from playing Champions a lot, but I think it also feels more, "organic," you know? Just a little less stifled.

I enjoy squares, but I prefer hexes. I haven't playtested hexes enough, though, and I worry about their abiity to represent clear and obvious building terrain.
I like hexes more in terms of movement realism - it's a lot closer to the freedom of Mage Knight without needing the measuring tape. But hexes only allow 6 figures to base 1 instead of 8 (which also prevents full use of the Green Lantern Team ability).
I do enjoy hexes for many strategic board games, but the only complaint I ever had was zigzagging back and forth when I wanted to move in a straight line. Of course, one game I played got around that by allowing you to move onto a hex edge as well. It worked out pretty well for small cardboard pieces, but would be a pain for figure bases.
