Quick question on the new rules on Super Strength and objects
Have a quick question on super strength and objects. If I have a character with SS carrying an object (like a lantern) can I cancel my SS but I am still carrying the object, thus not having to use the object in a close combat attack?
If you are carrying an object you have to use it in a close combat attack. Super srength has nothing to do with this as you only use it to pick up the object and then the object rules take over.

This is something that we will need to wait and see how the new rules are worded. I agree with Vanisher now. But, I will have to see what the book says.
Otherwise, why be able to cancel it when before you couldn't?
No rest until the great works of Anthony Edward Stark are in clix forms
Soon...his works will be realized... in 2013 the Hall of Armor in clix!

My line of thinking is, if you needed SS to pick up the object, wouldn't you need it to weild the object (i.e. to use it in close combat). It would be cool if you could, because then you can do close combat attacks and choose whether or to use the object, but it seems that with Quebbster here it is not going in that direction.
Super Strength is functionally no different than it was before.
Yes, some wording was changed to be more clear. Parts were removed from the SS description since it was redundant with the "Using objects" part of the rules. And other such cosmetic changes. As far as the average player is concerned, though, there is NO CHANGE; anyone saying otherwise is mistaken.
"How does [insert special power] work with the new 2013 rules?"
Most everything special power-wise, we're looking into. The PAC changes may change the way some special powers function; we're checking on them before the June release. In the meantime, ask your judge.
Hmm...So I know I can't cancel my own SS to drop an object I'm carrying.
But are you implying I can cancel a Special Power that has SS to drop the object I'm carrying?
No.
If you wanted a to cancel an SP for some reason (say you had one that let you use Super Strength and Willpower and you wanted to take pushing damage), you could cancel the SP... but the object would still be held.
SUPER STRENGTH When this character moves due to its own action, it can pick up an object as a free action and carry it. The object must be either in a square the character occupies or in an adjacent square. If this power is lost or countered while this character is carrying an object, immediately put the object in the square this character occupies. If this power is canceled while this character is carrying an object, it continues to carry the object. When this character makes a close combat attack targeting blocking terrain, a wall, or an object, modify its damage value by +2 for the attack.
I am honestly curious, guys, why that bolded part is cause so much confusion? If you cancel Super Strength the object is still held. It says so, right there, in the power description.

I think it's more curiosity than confusion. Like steelmage asked, if you canceled the power- even though the object is still held- do you have to use it? He may have figured that because you need SS to hold the object, you need it to use the object, and canceling would mean you no longer have it so you wouldn't have to use the object.
I was just curious as to the new wording. The same with Outwit's new wording, why some stuff was omitted and some stayed.
that is all, and you guys have answered and explained nicely as to why it is worded that way.

I think the confusion is, people are asking themselves, why would it change unless it means I can not use an object? I still haven't seen an example of how this new function is used or what it will do.

I was really just playing the advocate in response to Quebbster's answer. Moreover to answer the question in case players thought there might be a loophole with SPs.
WizKids GamePlay, "You can only play our game if you buy the new stuff. Those old figures are dirty and obsolete."

Didn't read the first part of my post then, eh

Other reasons could include Mind Control (your opponent want to cancel your Super Strength for some reason) and future game mechanics that we just haven't thought of yet.
