Seriously. I went in expecting a 2 and a half hour BOREfest starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Leonardo as the humorous sidekick role, and then a third Diwhatshisface to balance out the DeCaprio.
Nothing of the sort- DiCaprio played his roles as Dom exceptionally well as a troubled character who feels tremendously guilty about what he said to his wife which indirectly caused his fears throughout the movie- he does a lot of facing his own demons and Christopher Nolan made it work.
Apart from this, Ken Watanabe plays an excellent role as the owner of an energy company. He hires these 'dream thiefs' to convince another man named Chris to split up his company, so that Ken's company can survive. It would seem as though they'd have to balance out which character seems evil. If Chris was a good character, Ken would look greedy, and if Ken's character was a bad character, Chris would look like a jerk, but after learning more about Chris' recently deceased father, you actually start to 'feel' both of the characters.
The movie also had a lot of visual eye candy- it seemed like it was trying to put a lot of abnormal scenes in older science fiction into visual terms. It actually works well,

Especially in the scene where Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in a hotel fighting security guards in a dream, while his sleeping body in the layer above is in a falling, spinning, van. Because of this, the hotel spins fairly quickly.
Even if you hate DiCaprio, it's easy to get over, and if you're a fan of oldschool science fiction, it's definitely worth a shot.
I also loved this movie. And actors I like just kept popping up too. JGL, Ellen Page, Michael Cane, etc.
One of the best movies I've seen in a long long time.
Yeah- I would have been fine with it if it was anywhere near how awesome The Dark Knight was, but it surpassed it.
I'm starting to like Ken Watanabe as an actor- he's been great in 'The Last Samurai', 'Cirque Du Freak' (great, even though it cashes in on the vampire franchise. Great series of books too), and now Inception.
I thought Dark Knight was the most boring, heavy-handed movie that I've ever seen. Would I like Inception?
Everyone keeps telling me it's great, but if it has the same kind of "stolen from a college essay" feel that the dialogue in Dark Knight had, then I wouldn't be interested. Is it similar, or is it a little more loose?
It was an incredible 2D movie, which more should aspire to.
Agreed, though I will confess to wanting to see it on blu-ray.

I enjoyed Dark Knight and Inception- both of them.
However, Inception and Dark Knight don't have the same feel to them. Not exactly sure how to describe it. My father HATED TDK but loved Inception. My mom felt it was the exact opposite. It's not a definitive "You like/hate one, you have to like/hate the other"
It's definitely worth a shot, even if only viewed as 'eye candy'.
I loved the movie... the only problem I have is with people saying that they needed to see it two or more times to get it all. I am by no means a perseptive person, nor very intelligent lol, but was there that much to see, or easter eggs etc?

See, I thought the way they did it was clever. There were some scenes throughout the movie where I'd think to myself 'This is where the movie will lose me...'
And then future scenes explain it. It reminded me of how Slaughterhouse-Five was written.

I feel the same. A few people I know who saw it and even a commercial or article I read or something mentioned that its worth multiple viewings. And I just don't see why. The ending wasn't that complicated. There were no twists in the plot or scenes in the movie that I didn't understand by the end of the movie. Unless there are some easter eggs, I think I got the whole thing in one sitting (I'll just insert the "that's what she said joke here to save everyone else the trouble )
It was a pretty good movie. I don't think I loved it, but I think that is mostly because alot of the action seemed very Matrix-y. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, but in Matrix, it was pretty new and wow'ed me. Now that I've seen it before it is still cool, but I wasn't amazed. I was also very impressed by the amount of 'named' stars in the movie.

Not really sure if it is a spoiler, but was anyone else just waiting for Christian Bale and/or Liam Neeson to walk on screen? I mean Cillian Murphy (Scarecrow), Micheal Caine and Ken Watanbe.

I think for many audiences, that home theater among other technological innovations has ruined the film-going experience by making it easier to kill your attention span. While you're at home, you can pause, rewind, get up, talk to people, read a book, watch the neighbor through the window, knit a pair of socks... in short, we're used to not paying 100% attention at home, and I think that carries into theaters.
Example: A good friend of mine was dating a girl that liked to knit, all the freaking time. We'd go to their apartment to watch a movie, and she'd be sitting there, surfing the internet with her laptop on an end table, while working on a knitting project, and claiming to watch the movie. Maybe she was the best multi-tasker ever, but I'm more inclined to believe that something was lost with her focus split three or four ways.
I don't think it's a complicated film. It may challenge the way some people think, especially if they aren't sci-fi savvy or deep thinkers. The ending is open for some debate, but that's about it. If you're the type of person who's constantly texting or updating your FB status, yeah you might get lost.

Did anyone see it in IMax? The new theater we got has it in IMax and am wondering if it is worth it...
I paid to see it in Imax, but the screen I saw it on was not a full Imax experience. Having seen an 80 foot tall Yoda on an Imax screen, I know an Imax theater when I see one. It seems like Imax has been leasing their name to some theaters for some part of their process (sound?).
A real Imax screen will take up your entire field of vision, making you lose yourself in the picture. The Dark Knight gave me vertigo on some of the rooftop scenes, especially the opening zip-line to bank roof.
The screen I saw it on was about the fourth of an Imax size. It was a good experience, but it was not really Imax.

I definitely agree with this. Heck, I'm guilty of this sometimes at home also. Luckily I grew up while there were still limited options of entertainment at home. You either had tv or read. And you were never allowed to do both at the same time. In any case, I really don't see a debate of any real substance occurring due to the actual events in the movie. It was made pretty clear which sequences happened in dreams and which were real.

Ok fine. I'll admit that the ending left us wondering a little bit, but that's only because we weren't allowed to watch the top-totem thing for a significant amount of time. I thought the very last moment showed that it was starting to topple, but that could be argued.
But I would hardly consider anything that happened, including the ending, truly confusing or thought provoking. Its a great watch with good action and pretty good acting though. In fact, I'd say that the film almost tries to cater to the attention-deficient because all the different layers of dreams are so different. It's like watching a series of short movies with recurring actors.
