Speaking of Norm's event, is this one in any way connected to his Clixathon?
I only ask as the event schedule and descriptions are almost verbatim and if they're not connected in some way, well, that just seems like the event is riding on something seperate and established which doesn't seem right to me.
I'm not judging anyone or casting dispersions, I think it's great that this event is happening especially since there seem to be few big events in the southwest. However, I know that Norm worked really hard to promote his event (and yes, he even devoted a great deal of thought as to what to call it) and if this event isn't connected, and is using his brand and his schedule, and his event descriptions, well, I hope that an apology is forthcoming.
Again, not trying to be a downer or cast value judgements. This is just my $.02
Are you for real? A tournament that might look similar to another tournament? Really? Would it have been better for them to have specified something like 305 points, Modern Age, alternating 2 & 3 action turns, left-handed clixs only, rounds will be 52.5 minutes in length, flights will start at 7 minutes past the hour and at 34 minutes past the hour, and players whose last names begin with S, D, or T will automatically receive 1st round byes and get a free foot massage?
There are very few ways to run tournaments. Of course events are going to look similar to each other! Do we really need to 'acknowledge credit' to someone else because they also used qualifiers and had Battle Royales at their events.
Give me a break.

I think you missed a vital point.
The event schedule, the event name, and even the event descriptions (down to the non-random sealed) are almost verbatim to the work Norm did.
I'm not admonishing anyone, I am just wondering if there is a connection between the two events is all. If not, I think some credit's earned where credit's due.
IMHO, it's no different if there were a show calling itself GenCon New Jersey, and it included a schedule and event descriptions that were almost verbatim with what is found at GenCon Indy. You can bet some eyebrows would be raised and questions asked.
Thanks for the indignation though, it really advances the dialogue.

Yes, well the significant difference to that argument is that GenCon is a copyrighted and trademarked entity that will see you in court if you started a "GenCon New Jersey". We are talking about Heroclixs tournaments at shops here.
Perhaps, fragile egos aside, we can remember that we are talking about promoting the game and that anyone willing to do the work of hosting and running a tournament with little to no support from WizKids should just be thanked rather than challenged for 'borrowing' wording from another tournament.
Isn't there something else a bit more important to get feathers ruffled up about?

I think your subscribing motive and attitude where none exists. I asked a simple question, and postulated nothing more than a modicum of consideration for someone who worked hard on a strikingly similar event.
You're bringing all this other stuff to the discussion that, frankly, has nothing to do with my original post or thoughts. It's not as if Norm has come in here asking for anything, I just wanted to share my thoughts. That OK with you?

Yeah, that in and of itself is interesting enough for me, I am originally from the Houston area, and when I'm down I don't know any stores to go to (now that Midnight closed).
man wish i could make this, only a 4 hour drive, to bad its in houston bleh i hate huston just kuz of the traffic i usta think dallas was bad then when i went to huston, now i love dallas traffic B^P i went 15 min down the road from my hotel to pick up tickets for a big 3 day event, just 2 exits down... took me an hour and a half to get back because there were no on ramps to get back on the high way B^P its a great city once you get in there and get to where you are going and it has one of the best mexican food places in Texas if not the US B^) but man i hate driving around out there when your not sure where you are going B^P
that place looks really cool though, and i have to agree with what a few others have said... fast food place with a comic/gaming store in it!! that is one of the best ideas ever!! B^)
I wonder what it takes to get this kind of support from Wizkids. Is there any particular reason they are aiding this event with an announcement and prize support over others?

It's also almost the exact same setup as the Midwest Regional Championship which was run in September. It's a good way to run a large tournament.

I didn't see any announcement of prize support from WK..?

I see your point in giving credit where credit's due, but obviously if Wizkids allowed the article to go up about this event without giving direct credit, then there's very little anyone can do about this.
This is more like bringing a Clix-a-thon event to a new area. While Maryland is the heart of Heroclix, this game has reached an audience nationwide as well as globally (to a certain degree).
I haven't seen an event this big in Texas since I started playing in 2009, so I'm stoked!

I talked to wizkids about this. Store isn't getting any support from wizkids other than being featured on the site. Ahmed is doing it all himself from my understanding which is quite an undertaking. Hopefully he can pull it off with grace, I know he really loves clix.

I think the announcement being on the Wizkids site was real cool of them even if they don't send any product prizes. Not that I'm against product prizes, but I'm glad they seem to be getting more into events. I've not kept up with events I could not get to but it seems to be happening more often and I'm all for it.
Well well I run event on other side of Houston at R&R comics and games Monday's at 7 P.M. And Saturday's at 2 P.M. I think I will cancel saturdays event and round up the possie and invade Bo's. And to inform people it isn't the only thing going on in Houston. Comicpalooza will be last weekend of May. Working on game schedule now and prize support. See you there!

As a local do you think he's going to have enough room? I've never made it over there.
