Arsenalroy2k here, and welcome back to the latest edition of Comic Accurate! As we get closer and closer to the release of Giant Size X-Men, this week we visit a band of mutants and superheroes known as The Exiles. An X-Team so out there, they're in another universe entirely.
Back in 2001, creators Judd Winick and Mike McKone created The Exiles. Which was essentially Marvel meets "Sliders" and "Quantum Leap". Characters from across the multi-verse are plucked from their varying timestreams to fix things that went wrong.
Over the run of the series/franchise, writers like Jeff Parker, Chris Claremont and Chuck Austen also tried their hand at the title with... mixed results, putting it nicely. But it was writer Tony Bedard's run on the book that's the focus of this installment of Comic Accurate. Mainly "World Tour".
See, in issues #69-83 of Exiles, the X-Men enemy Proteus took over the body of Exiles member Mimic and prompted the team (Blink, Sabretooth and Morph) to chase him across the Multiverse. Along the way, the team picked up several new members from outside the standard 616 Marvel Universe (Power Princess, Longshot and Spider-Man 2099). Eventually they stopped Proteus by imprisoning him in Morph's body and making Proteus forget who he really is. With that said, here's our lineup:

I know. Ultimate Sabretooth isn't Age of Apocalypse Sabretooth. But until we get an official Heroclix version of "Mr. Creed", I'm opting to make do with the closest approximation I can get as both AoA and Ultimate are alternate versions of the regular Sabretooth. If you want to use another version, I won't fault you any.
Anyways, that roster comes out to 469 points. If we used the Vets of Blink and Sabretooth, they'd come out to 497 exactly, but there's a method here. Put Auto Regen on both Morph and Sabretooth while you put Lunge on Spider-Man 2099. Now we're up to 498.
But if this isn't your cup of tea, the team went through a slight change after the World Tour was all done. With Proteus gone, Power Princess opted to leave. As she left, Psylocke took her place. Additionally, Heather Hudson, formerly a part of the team as Sasquatch, returned to the team in a role of coordinator from their headquarters.
xp060 V Psylocke
Team: X-Men
Range: 8
Points: 45
Keywords: Martial Artist, Psychic, The Hand, X-Men
So all we have to do is take the 498 point team we just built, take off the feats and Power Princess and presto! Psylocke and Sasquatch can replace them putting the group right back at 498 points. Just keep Heather on her first click.
Now there's other lineups we could make, if we want to just keep using substitutes for the Exiles versions (like for the roster to Volume Two for example). But unfortunately, swapping in these close approximations can only carry us so far as former members like Beak, Thunderbird and the female versions of Sunfire and Namor who don't have a close analog don't exist. And good luck trying to put together the New Exiles. Putting that group together would be as big a headache as one got from reading that terrible book.
Those should be it for the lineups from the main series that we can build.
Well, hold on. That might not actually be true.
There is... one... more comic based Exiles team we can build. Here it is:

sv222 LE Wolverine
Team: No Affiliation
Range: 0
Points: 50
Keywords: Monster
That group, based as close upon issue #85 as I could get, comes out to 400 points on the nose! And this should go without saying, but you may want to play this in a tournament with only ranges of zero allowed. Or better yet, play it to taunt anyone that still complains about Wolverine being everywhere. Seriously, it's 2011. Time to let it go. All the cool kids nowadays complain about Deadpool being everywhere.
And speaking of letting go, that's all for us in this edition of Comic Accurate! Next time, we visit everyone's favorite club of "elite" X-villains. Complete with a special guest!
A while ago I tracked down Spiderman 2099, Power princess, and Longshot just to be able to build this team. I had most of the rest, or at least decent subs.
Love the Exiles. It makes me sad that is ended and in with such a whimper. I hope they do make Sabretooth/Mr. Creed. I would love a Holocaust, Namora, Magnus, and Thunderbird too. It may even be time for a remake here and there.
I used the LE Victor Creed when I make this team. Auto-regen makes him pretty decent. I guess you could sub in the WOS Wolverine dial for him.
Here is a brief summary of an eXiles scenario we used to play off-and-on.
WARNING: The scenario is best played by players that make decisions quickly.
We used to play this at 300 points, but it can work for higher points too.
Build restrictions: The Build requirement is exactly 6 characters (no generics, no cardboard) at 300 points. When one is defeated, you may swap in a figure +- 10 points.
One of the characters holds the Tallus. When a figure on your force is defeated, at the start of the controlling players next turn replace that figure with one of nearly the same point value +- 10 points. That figure is placed in any one of the squares that is range 2 away from the character holding the Tallus. If the Tallus holder is defeated, give the Tallus immediately to one of the other friendly figures.
I really miss the Exiles. It was really fun to see some of the alternate universe characters show up in an official way. I stopped reading at about the time Psylocke showed up on the team. It just seemed to lose whatever it was that made it so great. It's still a great team to play in 'clix though.
Great article for a fun and awesome group of characters. Reminds me that I've been working on a custom of the female version of Sunfire made out CD Green Flame/Fire. I need to take her off the back burner and finish her
Exiles was a great book under Winick or Bedard, like Blue_Shield noted. It was essentially "Sliders" in comic form, and easily my favorite X-book to read while in college. When Claremont came along and messed with things, the book went downhill and never recovered.
Favorite DC read: Demon Knights
Only Marvel read: Avengers Arena POWER GIRL OR BUST!!! <-- This summarizes my thoughts on the release schedule.
I loved the exiles so much. I didnt even care that claremont seemed to have lost his touch. One of the few marvel titles that I'm still a fan of. Was dissapointed when the last run was cancelled so early on.
