SHIELD #4 - "Ancient Chinese Secret"

Fury looked at his war torn and tired S.H.I.E.L.D agents, he knew traveling through time could be hell on your mind. The first thing he did was order a training simulator match and broke his members into teams. He wanted to ensure everyone would work as a team again and to build confidence in each other, as well as get everyone back in fighting shape.

He told them all “After you have finished your simulator, get some rest and meet in the briefing hall in two days time. I’m giving you all tomorrow off, you all look like you need it.”

Just then, a soldier in new aerodynamic S.H.I.E.L.D armor suit with a jetpack attached, appeared. “One more thing , this is your new team member, Mike Leeman he is testing out some new S.H.I.E.L.D jetpack technology we got from the leftovers of Dooms robots after the explosion. He will join some of your on your training missions. Who knows, maybe I’ll show up too. Hopefully, we will be able to take this new technology and miniaturize it so it can work for everyone someday."

As his team members broke into the designated groups and entered the training area, Fury shook his head, he had a splitting headache since the time of his teams vanishing into the past. Memories of his Howling Commandos and not being able to break into the castle stronghold were constantly in battle with memories of S.H.I.E.L.D members helping his team break into the castle stronghold. It was if he had two memories of the same event each with a different ending, one revealing a new enemy Hydra and all of its founding members.

He decided to speak with Reed Richards to see if he could be of any assistance. Reed examined Fury and said, “I find nothing wrong with you physically or mentally. All of your motor neurons and brain synapses are fine, and your body has no metabolic signs of sickness. What you are experiencing, is not possible. Changes in the past create alternate time-lines, and thus you should only have one memory of an event." Seeing Fury's look of confusion, Reed tried a different tact, "You saw the movie Back to the Future, wells it’s a lot like that. Sorry time travel is difficult to explain." Fury was thankful Richards did not explain it further. With his splitting headache the last thing he needed was more techno mumbo-jumbo.

Reed continued, “Perhaps being near the explosion of Doom's time machine you have suffered a dimensional time merging. This is something that has only been theorized on by scientists so far as one of the dangers of time travel. The theory is that your mind was residing on both your current time and the time you travel too even though your body was here in our time. Thus, your mind has memories of both times and events. If this is the case you are truly a scientific miracle, studying you can help move science forward by hundreds of years.”

Fury declined, “If we don’t stop Hydra, there won’t be a one year left, much less hundreds.” Reed pleaded his case, but Fury would have none of it. “Thanks Doctor, maybe when we stop Hydra you can do some of your studies.” Then Fury got up to leave and turned to Richards and said “Reed, no one must know about this issue of mine unless I say so. I'm the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and cannot show any weakness, be it in front of my allies or enemies. Got it?!.” Reed nodded his head as the answer. “Good, let’s keep it that way”, then Fury grabbed a large bottle of Aspirin for a shelf nearby and left the room.

Two Days later Briefing Room:

The team members looked refreshed. Fury could tell the day off did them good, and Mike Leeman seemed to be fitting in well.

“Everyone!” The room fell to a hush. “I know we have all experienced a few major life events over the past few days, which have given you some insight into what the men and woman of the armed forces fought and died for so that American could be free from tyranny. I’m here to tell you that what you did back in time has given us a new perspective on who the enemy is, and that enemy is Hydra!”

Fury continued, “S.H.I.E.L.D knew about Hydra, and even had spies keeping tabs on the Mandarin's organized crime cartel, Blitzschlag's communist allies, Zemo's Masters of Evil as well as the others. However, until now we never had any inkling of their shared history and connection."

"Even though the heads of Hydra escaped, we now know the identities of the original 6 Heads of Hydra! We have been trying to track them down ever since WWII but they have all gone underground. However, some information recently came to light from a long lost friend."

Fury motioned someone to come in the room. It was Captain America. He was wearing a new costume and wielding a shinning new Shield. The room was excited, but stunned by his appearance. They all had a new respect for Captain America and Nick Fury, as well as the other soldiers who fought so bravely in WWII.

Captain America started to speak, “Baron Helmut Zemo brutally attacked the Avengers mansion and when we finally defeated him we saw he was wearing a Hydra ring - the very one that I and the S.H.I.E.L.D group saw given to Zemo's father Heinrich at the end of WWII. That is why I contacted Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D."

Fury interrupted, “Thus, although the original Zemo is dead, it appears he had passed his ring down to his son Helmut. We now have in custody one of the Hydra heads. We must track down the other five -Baron Strucker, Baron Von Blitzchlag, Baron Blood, Red Skull and the Mandarin. Captain America has volunteered his services to help S.H.I.E.L.D capture the other Heads of Hydra and take down this evil organization once and for all.”

“The first target will be the Mandarin. He is very well entrenched in China, the seat of his empire, so we will strike at one of their strongholds in Shenyang province to try to draw Mandarin out into a more vulnerable position.

Captain America will be leading the team and I expect you to follow his orders as you would mine, is that clear!”

The S.H.I.E.L.D agents all responded, “Yes sir!”

Aboard the S.H.I.E.L.D jet, Captain America looked around, he remembered most of the members from his experience in the past. Two of them however, Mike Leeman and a stunning Russian red-head code-named Black Widow he didn’t know. As he and the others fastened themselves to a parachute line preparing to jump, Leeman said, “See you on the ground” and jumped out of the jet as soon as the bay door opened. He ignited his jetpack, and put it in stealth flight mode, then began his decent. Captain America knew he had to watch this hotshot carefully. The rest of the them jumped out of the bay door and descended, landing safely on the ground outside the compound. Captain American and rest of the team members quickly gathered their chutes and hid them. After ensuring all of his members were accounted for he gave the order to infiltrate the compound. As they approached, they saw a crow sitting on the compound roof and when they came near it began to fly away. Black Widow opened fire using her silenced pistol and the bird was shot out of the air, crashing down at Captain America’s feet. Captain America was angry at the stupid shot by widow, but upon closer inspection realized the bird at his feet was metal and had a small camera in it.

“They know were here Aveng..." Captain America stopped himself mid-sentence, "let's get ready for a fight!”

S.H.I.E.L.D turn 1:

Story:
Captain America begins to give orders, but the S.H.I.E.L.D. team has already begun to move out.
Mike Leeman grabs onto Laura Brown and ignites his Jetpack carrying her onto of the small hut, dropping her behind a smoke stack, giving her a perfect vantage point for
identifying targets. At nearly the same time, the magnetic replusor's activated and on Agent Beaulieu's suit, he grabbed Agent-13 and lifted her over the small stone wall dropping her within cover fo the small Dragon Statue.
Captain America heard in his S.H.I.E.L.D. ear piece communicator. "Brown on location and spotting for targets", then he heard "Agent-13 in cover ready to cover the advance" Captain America was impressed with the corridination and team work of his team thus far.

Captain America ran forward and leaped into a sommersault over the dragon statue wall, landing on his feet and stopping next to Agent-13, with Widow following around the wall behind him.
