Pounce from Above: Scarlet Spider can use Leap/Climb. After he resolves a move action, he can make a close combat attack as a free action.
Web: Impact Webbing: Scarlet Spider can use Energy Explosion as if he had a range of 6. For each character hit, you may place a Web special marker in that character's square.
Not many people are fans of the "Spider-Clone" story. But in HeroClix, the clone himself makes for a picture-perfect secondary attacker.
My ideal #2 attacker goes like this: he's got a useful ranged attack to deal good damage or else slow down opponent movement, along with a strong defense in case of return fire. Then he's got a powerful move-and-attack to get in close and throw the first punch, a punch that can overpower Invulnerability. Finally he's got great defense for close-in attacks and the ability to automatically break away. All this should cost around 75 points.
Scarlet Spider? Check, check, check-check-check-check. As long as you have some objects for him to grab mid-Leap, he's going to do all that for you. He's got strong Combat Values and at least one good keyword - Scientist, which lets him team up with other great Scientists like his "twin" brother Parker, the incredible GSX Professor X, great support pieces like the Researcher and Cave Carson, and of course the amazing double-Perplex of Mr. Fantastic... Reed Richards. That insipid fool! How I despise him. I'll defeat you yet, Richards! RICHAAARDS!!
Oh. Ahem. Where was I? Right, the special powers. With Pounce From Above, he can Leap through terrain and then attack - which you never could do with the Pounce feat. Impact Webbing isn't the Spider's only ranged attack (don't forget throwing objects), but it may toss a gooey wrench in your opponent's plans.
Top tip: The Spider has great mobility - nearly equal to a flying Hypersonic character. Try to use it. Keep him on the move to where he will cause the most disruption and where his Combat Reflexes will keep him safest. Since his defense stays strong down his dial, focus your Leaping Heavy Object attacks on the enemies with the highest Attack Values.
Here's the Math: There's 102 characters in HeroClix with starting values of at least 9, 11, 18, and 3. Guess who's got the lowest point cost. Go on, guess.
Eh, my Scarlet Spider got owned by Amanda Waller and some of her female Checkmate friends, including Negative Woman.
Then they worked over my WOS Iron Man! I was down to a Researcher only, and yeah, he got owned, as well....

Scarlet Spider is great, but I really feel like he needs the TA to match the rest of the New Warriors and his Ben Reilly counterpart.
I was also SEVERELY puzzled by the loss of Spider-Man Ally when going from Ben Reilly to Scarlet Spider. If anything at all, it should have been the other way around.
On that note, why do Ben Reilly and Peter Parker get to be a Wildcard, but Bruce Wayne and Batman don't even get their own team abilities? Curious, and sad face...

The first time I used him, I used Pounce From Above to utterly cripple Xorn, who was hiding behind the Dynamostat, which I picked up and bashed him with. The rest of the New Warriors went on to defeat WoS Wolverine and Nightcrawler. One of my only wins against Nightcrawler, and it was with the New Warriors, of all teams.
I love these articles. For the points, Scarlet Spider is a solid bet. I think people overlook the fact that actually DOES HAVE RANGE.... a 6 range that can be outwitted... but still... STILL...
But it's really the move and attack ability that makes him awesome. Those numbers on top may be good, but you gotta get to that second click otherwise this guy doesn't do too much out in the field.
I pulled this guy for the WoS sealed event and he helped a ton. Once I got him onto his Pounce from Above power, things were golden! The only part I found hard was the decision between an 11 attack or the move/attack ability.
You have inspired me to use him more.

I love my New Warriors theme-team even if they've never won a game.
I've hardly won any games with them (the one I mentioned above was the first time), and they are easily one of my losingest teams, but I have fun fielding them- not sure why, I never really read the Warriors books except the few that involved Scarlet, and only then because they were included in a collection.
"Big Ben" as I call him, has won me many a game. He's crippled many a tent pole (if you play him in science teams, he'll always have some outwit to make sure damage sticks) and flat out assassinated support pieces. In higher point games he makes an EXCELLENT assassin. Last time I used him he made his way across Madripoor on the sidelines as my opponent dealt with my bigger threats, not even thinking of ole' Scarlet. Next thing you know Professor X takes 6 clix of damage (5 with a heavy object plus a crit) and is one shotted. He's glorious.
Now if we can get this dial with Spider-Girl's defensive SP and put him in his Spider-Man costume? There's a Spider-Man it'd rock all day and night.
