So I got contacted by a Realmser around about the time I was done doing my last map, looking to see if I was interested in doing a map for this cool convention 'Dragoncon' in Atlanta, GA.
I'd kind of been kicking around an idea for a map already, it didnt take much to gear it towards the theme.
I actually completed this map quite awhile ago, I've just been busy and pretty slack in getting it uploaded.
As time goes on, more and more of my maps become fully original art, I'm borrowing less and less. Its increasing the time it takes to make them, but I'm a lot happier with the end result. Using someone elses art doesnt sit right with me.
Using stock photos, like the grass and water, doesnt feel quite as bad, but eventually these things are going to be 100% me.
And believe it or not, because I'm a sick bastard, I laid down each of those tiles individually.
I may have issues.
Anyways, take it from me, its a blast to play on. Note the different levels of elevation. I really wanted to take advantage of those new rules, I really dig em.
I hope your enjoy!

That is awesome to hear! I feel the same way when I make maps - and perhaps it wasn't the best idea to make my very first map (which I entered into the esigns map contest) with that philosophy. As the clock ran down I ended up cheating myself and throwing two stock palm trees because it was just too dang bland for words.
So, I'm going back and trying to make new maps, using stock images where I need to... but one day I hope that I am comfortable enough and skilled enough to take the path you're taking now.
So be sure to let us all know your challenges and tips - I'll need that insight in about a two years when I catch up to where you are now!
I'm noticing a bit of sky on the edges and in the middle - cool floating ruins. I imagine the edge would have similar rules to your breakfast table map... any intended rules for the middle (or the edges that are different than the breakfast table)?
Thematically it's a little odd; but I really like the detail in the tile. I believe that this would've been better as a linking map; as it would only get better the bigger the map gets.
I think that this will be a great prize for the 2011 HCRealms.com Dragon*Con Events.
