I have about $50,000 worth of wiggle room. My salary (and Hellboy's salary) will be taken from the bottom, and we are willing to not get paid the first year or so if need be. I need $120,000 to get off the ground (went through and cut some costs yesterday), but every subsequent set will only need an average of $39,625 or so.
I have not calculated increase in pricing yet, but as if I lower the salaries there is plenty of room for it (I don't need to pay out $120,000 a year with this).
I have all of my costs currently listed as the ceiling quotes or estimates, and I have added 12.5% on top of that for everything. I have assumed that I will be paying a higher rate of taxes for the first year (estimated earning puts me in the 34% rate, but if I make about $70,000 less than anticipated, I will be in the 39% bracket).
I plan on working hard to sell these, and not just relying on word of mouth. I fully believe that with the amount I plan to produce, I can find the customer base I need. I know that this could fail badly, but I also know that it is an item that could do very well.
I wish I could afford to get in on this with you. It seems only natural that I would want to be a part of this.

I had originally intended on trying to back this as well. But between the apparent higher costs of the conventions I'm putting my vendor table in and now the expense of another vehicle, I don't think I'll be able to. I CAN offer help to promote these though. Heck, I'd sell them at my table at conventions. Lots of cross-genre nerdom to be had.
Jeremiah, I've got your box packed up (Curtis' too). I'm going to have my mom mail them out for me since I've been working overtime so much.
Hooray! I might still get that Phantom Stranger from you, but I think I'll wait until you list a few more things so that I can buy more than just one piece.

Yes, someone stole our car from the rear parking lot of our apartment complex (only one way back there, a narrow road that goes behind a row of apartments). Now, granted, the car wasn't expensive but it's a hell of an inconvenience AND Jack's car seat and wagon (a Christmas gift from a friend) were in the car. So, filed a report with the police and plan on having yet another conversation with the Manager of the complex.
"Great family environment" is how this place was sold to us. Let's see:
Drug fueled domestic violence incident that I had to get involved in (see "Hillbilly Whisperer"). Check.
Less than a week later, drunken brawl between a father, mother, son and daughter in law that nearly busts our door in. Check.
Short time later, same people in another fight, breaking a glass window in a common area. Check.
Shortly after that, our car is stolen. Check.
Sounds like a family place to me!
Sorry for the situation you find yourself in, Jack. I hope you guys can hang in there a while longer until you can find a better place. And that they find the dirt bags that stole your car.
And I too have nothing but good wishes for Bryan and his dice business. I am happy to be a small part of it.

Oh and Jack, I know it won't make up for the bad news of the day, but I will have your two sets of Tolkein Tokens and the money I owe you in the mail tomorrow. I was just going to send it and let it surprise you, but it seems that you could use the pick me up today.

heh heh, thank you, sir. A pick me up is worth more than it's weight in gold right now.

Yeah, first thing I did (sick and all) was go and see if there was anything at all I could use to track. There's a back way into that parking lot, by foot, that some disreputable looking characters use to cut through the block but no trace of anything. The rain doesn't help on that front. They better hope I don't find them before the cops do.

I'd have done the same thing. I have fortunately never found myself in your situation, but I came close once (I simply mis-placed my car). And that instant feeling of panic and anger is not one I'd like to ever feel again.
My thoughts are with you, friend.

Businesses and organizations are open-ended pursuits, which do not qualify as finite projects. If your team has a specific, finite project, though, it could work if it meets the Kickstarter Guidelines.
What is Kickstarter (and thanks to phantalien for pointing me in this direction)? It is a place to get funding for projects. How does it work? You set a timeline and amount needed for a project that will create a clear and finite product (like getting funding for a musical album or for self publishing a book). Starting a business does not qualify as a project, but if the business consists of creating a series of finite projects (like producing 90,000 dice consisting of 24 designs) then kickstarter could work.
How do I get money? Lots of people donate in small amounts (amounts which I do not have to reimburse), and I give them rewards in return! If I do not reach my goal by my timeline, no money changes hands and no one loses anything other than time spent.
What does this mean for me? I could start a project, and basically use it to let people pre-order the dice they want. It will be a great test to see if this project will generate enough interest without me having to actually spend anything on it. If I do not meet the deadline, I find out that my business won't work without having to go bankrupt. This could be a very good thing for me if my project qualifies =]

I just recently heard about this as well, though I haven't checked it out. This could be a very viable option!

I wish I knew beforehand that you needed a Phantom Stranger. I've had one sitting in my trade box for like a year. But at this past weekend's tournament, I gave it to one of my players that didn't have it, and didn't really care to get one, but took it anyway to just add another figure to his collection that he'll never play. If I only knew it could have had a better home...
