Are these tests all performed and damage dealt before play begins? Cause thats the way we played it last night and having to take 4 unavoidable before I can even move sucked pretty hard. (Yeah I passed one test)
Also since defenders counts as working the same as defend and doesnt technically allow the use of the defend power I decided that I did not pass the test for possesing defend, did I make the right call?

My question is Ziran's testing damage being dealt all at once or three times for two damage each. Makes a big difference especially with stuff like Galactus' "You Shall Not Harm My Master" trait.
I'm bumping this thread, rather than starting a new thread.
I'm looking for an answer to this question as well for the exact same reason.

We have been playing it that each test counts as a seperate action. Completly resolving one before going on to the next. So if you failed all three it would be damage fro 3 seperate sources. Not sure if that is the "official" way to do it, but it has been working well for us.

Another reason that came up last night was if it is dealt separately you can deal two clicks to one figure and see what stats and powers they have. If you have to assign it all you would have to know more about the dials. We played it you had to assign it all and then the clicks were taken.

I would see this as a "harder" way to do it. You would have to keep track of what the figure that took damage had on their first click. Not terribly hard but could get confusing if you have a bigger match with more than two people and more than one Ziran.

So...still no official answer to the question?

I'm just playing it as a total "damage pool", not per test.
So for each test failed, 2 damage goes into the pool. Once all 3 tests are complete the damage from the fails has accumulated into the pool, then the damage from the pool is dealt.

You like it this way, but...

This guy likes it that way.
I'd just like to know what the "Official" way is supposed to be.

These guys are another reason why it would matter.

(Attack) White Sword: Sinestro can use Blades/Claws/Fangs. When he rolls a d6 for Blades/Claws/Fangs, on a result of 5 or 6, you may heal him of 1 damage after actions resolve.
(Defense) LIVE!: Sinestro can use Regeneration. When turning the dial, if this click is revealed due to damage taken from an opponent's attack, stop turning the dial.

(Defense) Unstoppable: Doomsday can use Invulnerability. When you turn Doomsday's combat dial as a result of him taking damage, stop turning the dial when Unstoppable appears in the stat slot.
Take Doomsday for example...
If I deal him 6 unavoidable damage one time, the dial will stop turning on click three and 4 of the unavoidable get wasted.
If I deal him 2, then 2, then 2, he will land on click 3 after the first 2, and when all is said and done, he'll be on click seven.
There's a big difference between three and seven.
For now, I'm going with it being 6 dealt once, not 2 dealt thrice.
I'll site this PG entry:
Quote
All damage from a single effect is dealt simultaneously, unless otherwise specified. For example if two characters are both hit by the same Energy Explosion or Throw a Grenade attack, all of the damage from that attack is dealt at the same time, so any damage transfer will be combined.
The remaining question is whether the "for each" counts as specifying otherwise. I don't think it does.
Word back from the designers is that this is correct.
So basically you do all the tests first. Figure out which ones were passed and failed. Add up the damage for all the failed tests and then distribute that damage all at once divided among the chosen opposing characters. Got it.

How is the damage to be divided?
For example, if the opposing team fails all three tests, can that 6 damage be divided any way the Ziran player sees fit, or must it be split in multiples of 2 (ie, the Tests are split, but not the total damage)?
Cool I did indeed wonder about this, my first thought though was that this thread was going to have to do with something about testing and a number 2 pencil, but I see now that the answering of this is more pertinent.
