So this saturday I decided to run a Chase Thanos team, and oh boy!!
Alright, the format was 700 modern age GG/Hulk 400 min. Much like the standard for this event. Though we did not allow 3x9 Colossal figures.
My team consisted of:
350 Chase Thanos
+20 Soul + Time Gem on Gauntlet
38 AIM Agent
38 AIM Agent
33 Howard Stark
34 AIM Renegade
15 Researcher
15 Researcher
15 Researcher
60 Klaw
80 Tomar Re
Total 698 and this was a Scientist Theme Team
I won't fully go into it because I made a video that explains everything, down to the formation and steps to run the team. You can click the link to the Thread where the video is located. http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=368089
I want to start by saying this has to be one of the most broken, cheesy teams I've ever built. There are other teams out there similar, but not exactly with these figures. It probably will have a hard time Vs Ziran but not much more than that.
3-0 slightly under 2100 points later, I felt the team did its job but at the expense of everyones fun besides my own. I normally don't go this far into cheese teams, but it sure is one. I explain it more in the video but with this team you will most likely get 1st turn and blow out their two highest guys on turn 2. With the use of Hydra, perplex and prob. Klaws PB and Howards Outwit you pretty much cover all your bases. No defense is safe and no Defense stats are safe. Even a 19 can be brought down to 17 just with hydra and thats before perplex, so you could get that 19 down to a 16. Which can be mirrored by both Klaw and Tomar Re.
What do you guys think, I'm slightly afraid in high point games this guy will be the new standard. Really replacing Cosmic Spiderman, they are totally different and you would have to built the correct team for thanos but once you do its so easy, just point and shoot.
This was the first time I tried him out, and probably the last time for a couple of months unless the need for an all out win is a must.
Sounds like one of those WIN AT ALL COSTS PLAYER to me. But then again I guess what does it matter as long as YOU win and everyone else feels like crap.
Just wondering how it would stack up against the team my son ran yesterday and beat a Thanos team he faced with out losing a single figure.
See you guys missed the point! And your taking the one line out of context, without processing everything that went before and after.
That's cool, you can think what you want. Because I'm not that player, that wants to win at all cost, or plays to hurt others feelings. I built the team, thought it was good, and of course wanted to win. So in theory, it worked and I was happy because of all the planning I put into the team. Though it was disheartening because of how it took all of the fun and skill out of the game for everyone playing the game.
I posted this whole topic, only to state that this team is breaking the game in some way, at this point level. I didn't know as it was only the first time I played the team, that it would be as effective and deadly as it was.
Think what you want, but I normally play to have fun, and shy away from the real cheesy figures (cosmic spiderman, professor x, nightcrawler, bullseye, and now this Chase Thanos)
I didnt miss the point at all. I know you don't play specifically to screw people over all of the time, but you did it this time anyways.
I could have built that team and brought it to events, its not clever or ingenious, its just a modern min/max team.
I could have, I chose not to.
The fun of the other player is as important to me as my own fun, is why. And I put faith in my fellow players to have the same attitude.
Teams like this scream "F-you pal, I want my prize", no matter how much you proclaim afterwords to be a swell guy.
That's the only sentence that matters.
The rest of it is basically just masturbation.
Congratulations, I hope you never win fellowship.
I played a card game called WWE Raw Deal and there was this deck at one point that was pretty much an auto-win until they errated some cards. They called the deck "Balls" because your opponent never got to play any cards so he could just sit there and play with his balls the whole game.
Yes, he plays competitively, but EVERYONE has been playing competitively at our venue lately, even the little kids are dangerous, winning tournaments using Imperiex or Cable/Deadpool chase. Competition is half the fun of the game.
Listen guys, chase Thanos has a broken power, which breaks the game against many normal teams.
I came in second place in this very same event at 3-0, but I didn't have to play against this Thanos/scientist team because I was low on points.
My team: rare Adam Warlock with Gauntlet and 3 gems, chase Red Skull, Morg, Red Shift, and Nebula.
Would I have been able to defeat the Thanos team, doubtful, not because of the team, but because the ONE power can split up my whole team.
Much like Cosmic Spider-Man, or Nightcrawler, or any other hyper-efficient pieces or pieces with game-breaking mechanics, a "normal" team will usually lose to those pieces.
Now, in my last game, I beat Glen Quagmire's team of Dormmamu plus 100 point Sinestro. I'm not sure if chase Thanos faced that team, but that team would be MUCH more prepared to face chase Thanos than my team.
But seriously, everyone played competitive teams, as far as I could see. I faced a Cable/Deadpool with Gauntlet, rare Silver Surfer, rare Dr. Strange team from one of the kids, and knocked out Dr. Strange for the win.
I also played against a rare Silver Surfer, 75 pt Dr Strange (Energy Shield), Rick Jones, AIM guy, and IMPERIEX with Gauntlet and his nonsense Drill tokens.
I won that game, by knocking out Rick Jones for the only score.
It was a very competitive 700 point Infinity Gauntlet tournament. If you can't use chase Thanos then, when ARE you supposed to use it????
I don't know, I'm just saying powers like that are just too much against any normal team. And I don't like to play super competitive stuff, but honestly, the Infinity Gauntlet series has been nothing but competitive, even in our little venue.

I must say I am a tad disappointed at the attacks to OP received. Figures are made to be played. Is Chase Thanos the best figure in a high point game if the large base colossal figs are restricted from play? Absolutely. Is exploiting his ability unfair? no. Without any house ruled restrictions in week 5, does anyone think that Ziran + Gauntlet + Dr. Strange doesn't win? If they do 1800 points would it be wrong for a player to bring 3 x 600 point Ziran? I don't believe so.
The first rule of clix for me is know the venue and the players that play there. If you like competition, play at a competitive venue. If you want to hold hands and sing "Kumbaya", then by all means do so. It is a game with rules. Don't break the rules and play whatever you want to. If you want to win play to win. If you want to play for fun, prepare to face an uphill battle against a team built to win.
As an aside, I have seen a Metroncrawler team roll > 6 critical misses in 1 match. Did we all point and laugh...yes. No team is unbeatable, but high point games for desirable figures are going to bring out the cheese. Go big or pray for fellowship.
Its all fun and games until someone rolls snake eyes on a push.....then it is hilarious
Who cares what a person plays, if you got the figs then play them. Personally I would fully exspect to see team like this at a guanlet tourney. Sounds to me like people don't like his team because they either can't figure out how to beat it, or don't have the fig to play themselves. Figs are made to be played, not just look pretty. I myself don't get fellowship that often, and in such a competive enviroment, if I wanted the fig, I would play the best I got....exspecaily when your regular tourneys are like 6 to 10 people, but suddenly for the guantlet all these others you have never seen before show up and you have like 20 plus contenders. Out of towners don't deserve to have the regulars that support that venue take it easy on them, so why not bring the Cheese, they proboly will be.
Personaly I like his team, not only was it theme, but a smart team in my opinion.
Congrats on your win. Sounds to me like you spent time on the team building and deserve your fig. As long as your a Good spirited player, who cares what you play.
