Pretty much all of the IG events that I have participated in have not been the recommended format as well. So it hasn't been as crazy in my area. Haven't seen any colossals at all actually. Outside of the one event that was colossal only, but that was for the Nova Helmet prize, specifically so nobody cared.
Higher point games not being a factor at large events, utilize the following and screw chase Thanos:
Darkseid - 267
Captain America (Icecap) - 68 OR Weapon X - 72
Flavor remainder of team with support pieces for Darkseid that are less than your delay figure (I would suggest Elixir in higher point games to fix damage done by silly tests, horde tokens if allowed, AIM Renegades to make Darkseid better, or just a good Warlord or two). You have 4 turns to splatter them before your anti-teleport wears off, and most kill box teams don't have an answer for 11+ range psyblast because then never think that their enemy will be anywhere other than where they were teleported to.
Enjoy. Now please stop with the Thanos complaints...
I was talking about this to a buddy and he boiled down the whole colossal thing thus (paraphrased): "I like positioning and moving. Playing against a colossal is like 'Alright, I roll some dice. You roll some dice and hit me. I roll some dice and hit you. Repeat.'"
All the Gauntlet on a colossal does is make that experience go by faster.

Was the opposite for me when we had an all colossal event.
I used Ziran and completed destroyed Galactus, and anyone else, I played against. Including Galactus w/gauntlet and like a million feats. And Ziran was just straight up.
6 damage from the get go is near impossible to recover from. But I guess I could see things going either way depending.
We all left the tourney amazed at how easy Ziran cleaned up after that initial 6 damage.
I think it depends on where you put that damage. Destiny plus Elixir plus Gauntlet as pit crew means you can spend some time healing back up relatively easy. Murder Elixir? You've still got a colossal and his herald. Murder the herald or colossal? Turtle and heal. If Ziran doesn't get real aggressive, he's blown his major advantage and could get in trouble.
“And that's when I first learned about evil. It is built in to the very nature of the universe. Every world spins in pain. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior.”

Touting anything as an auto-win is a de facto complaint that the game element in question shouldn't be a part of the game - it removes the possibility that you actually play a game. While elements such as Chase Thanos, Infinity Gauntlet, or Ziran are horrendously unbalanced, there is always an answer. I will acknowledge that the game devolving into a super-power rock/paper/scissors isn't a good thing; finding the answer within the tools already given is quite fun though.
EDIT: While the OP's intent to point out how not-fun teams such as the posted are, unlike his very valid SIF crusade, Chase Thanos exists only in games of high enough point level to also make his counters readily available. My initial post was unnecessarily derisive though. I apologize.

Reason: Actually read more of thread
You don't need a special object to cancel Ziran's (or any Power Cosmic/Quintessence fig's) flight. Outwit alone can do that. Those team abilities only protect the character's powers. Not their abilities. Throw an outwitter on this Chase Thanos team, and Ziran is a completely viable target.

I didn't take the thread in that way, but I gues we just read it differently. It's all good.
People saying Chase Thanos stomps, people saying Ziran stomps, people saying Galactus stomps. So many options....well, two. (I don't have Ziran.)
Ziran with feats on him is just too much. Stunning blow + armor piercing + his Analyze Specimens = Too Much. Take away the feats, and his power is toned down at least a notch.

Kay...so, all I have to do to win is buy a 60 dollar figure. Gotcha.
Seems like a relative auto-win in 500, but not sure about 600+. At that point Galactus has multi-attack. And if you go first, you pass, then they pass, then you move them, they click. Then Galactus multi-attacks to full move, then shoot you/your support.
Ziran will also have multi-attack in the 500 point (his 300 point has it). I think he still has a shot to full move and then blast you. Plus he will dodge the damage from flying
Or am I missing everything?!?!
SCOTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're 100 percent correct. 600 point Galactus is not a autowin.. infact.. I think it's a loss.
If you're not playing a Gauntlet event, in which you have to use the specified map, DC Explorer's Chase Thanos team has +9 Scientists as well as Tomar Re's +1 to initiative. In which you can pick Hawkworld map and use cramcompany's tactic.
