I know several sets are getting retired this July, and many people are upset because a lot of their pieces are going to start seeing a lot less action. I'm a fairly new player, and this is the first time that a set has been retired since I started playing. My question is this: How often does WizKids decide to retire sets? Can we expect some more sets to go out of play this time next year, or will it be longer than that before the next retirement list goes up?
A lot of venues have Modern events and the occasional Golden event.
Lame.
I consider retirement such an unnecessary element of the game. Power creep has already ensured that players have to buy new product to stay competitive. And if the argument is that it helps stores sell more product, then run sealed events. I think that floor and modern only formats should stick to the convention tournaments.
As a VERY new player myself, this thread has been super-informative. +1 intrawebs to you all.
In addition, I'll add that I can see how retirement helps to keep tourneys fresh, but can also see how it adds another layer of confusion. (in an already pretty complicated game)
If I was in a position to play at a(any) venue, I would hope that they run a good share of golden games.

Our venue has an equal number of Modern and Golden/Silver age. I imagine most venues try to balance... Welcome to Heroclix, the most addictive, fun and frustrating game ever.
