I just started collecting these (haven't even played yet outside of just overviewing rules, etc.) I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips/opinions on this, my very first team (it seems like it should be ok...any help is appreciated)..thanx in advance:
1 Firelord V 97pts
1 Shadowcat U 36pts
1 Black Cat E 32 pts
1 Destiny E 23 pts
1 Hydra Medic R 12pts
ya i know ur new and all but w/ the firelord ur gonna get alot of sh*t, its wat we call a 'cheese' character. u could switch him for other characters maybe to make ur team more well rounded if u wanted.
Ok, fair enough...but obviously the idea is to control the dice/numbers game enough to keep the heavy hitter active. Firelord being the "Channel/Fireball" character (for the Magic players out there) Any suggestions for who I might replace him with? I really want to avoid adding too many characters to the team, as I don't want half of them standing around every turn watching the game so to speak.
Look if you want to use Firelord then use him, just be prepared for your oppent to go after your medic first and then
Firelord cause without a medic he becomes useless quick, even though he seems to start great ....just make sure you use a varity of figs to learn how to play the game better, dont rely on one team , mix them up as you go
There's nothing wrong with a new player using Firelord. He's a good piece for someone who is just starting out.
If you're new the only advice I really have for you, if you have the figures:
Change Firelord to his E version. It's cheaper and pretty much the same playwise and powerwise.
Upgrade your medic with the left over points. And maybe add in something cheap like a thug or something just to tie people up.
The problem with your team is that you only have one hitter, while he is a very effective hitter, it's just one guy. You should do all right.
Yeah, I kinda counted on that...which is the main reason for Destiny/Black Cat....if the medic comes under fire, I might be able to force some re-rolls and /or use Firelord to protect the medic.
On a side note...just how useful is Perplex? Does it stack? I ask because I've got another team idea for a Stealth/Perplex setup using Gambit, Mystique, and Beast as the backbone.
okay, then you have a problem, how do you protect your medic with Firelord and then still use him to be your main attacker to go after the other team?
Try working in a R Inv girl and keep her with your medic and she then shares her 18 defense with medic, amke it a little harder to hit, then with the Black Cat and Destiny if they do hit you can make them re-roll
Perplex will stack . It it a nice combo when u can pull if off. couple it with a shield team member or 2 and u can make a real problem for your opponent. That perplex/stealth team wont be as ridiculed , even tho no one should be chastised for their choice of fig to play with.
I do like the idea of using a better medic for a cheaper Firelord (keeping in mind this team is my first attempt at a tourney team, the "cheese" doesnt bother me--after all, at a tourney, you are paying to play and cheese is a good way to win) For casual play, and/or as I develop some skill with the nuances of the game, I'm more than happy to stay away from cheese...until then, I'll assume if everyone hates seeing anyone use Firelord that badly, then
1. He's as dangerous as I assumed
2. People at tourneys are going to either prepare for him or get eaten.
For now, I'll just hope no one is prepared for him for at least a round or two...failing that, I might get lucky and get stomped by a really inventive player and I'll learn that much faster.
