First let me say I had a great time at DexCon Jerome Stephen Brian Ben and all the WizKids people were great and the event was a lot of fun.
The top 14 played it out for a seat at GenCon, the winning team:
Congrats Derek
Superman FF Full Gauntlet
Johnny Quick x 2
Reporter theme
SHIELD Team
Steve Rogers full Gauntlet
Yelena Belova
Agent Collison
Shield Commando
Shield Agent = 298
Superman FF Full Gauntlet
Supergirl FF
+1 JLA ATA
Eradicator Full Gauntlet
Superman Chase - Piece of Ship
Red Skull 85 pts Full Gauntlet
AIM Renegade x 2

Deadpool/Cable Full Gauntlet
(This dude showed up with the team and was told at the event that split wasn't legal so he gets an Asterix)
Doom GG 169 Partial Gauntlet
Wolverine GG OP Kit
Imperiax Partial Gauntlet
As you can see another crazy diverse field and lots close matches. I will credit a guy named Ed for the quote of the week, "With all the powerful pieces and Gauntlets it is more a dice game with strategy than vice versa"

I don't put Doctor Doom on every team, but I certainly think about it!
I've for a while been an advocate for Eradicator being one of the best wearers/wielders of the full Infinity Gauntlet and so it please me to see a team utilising that and making the most of the 'Reign of the Superman' trait. Kudos to whoever it was playing that team.

With all due fairness, he showed up with LE Cable and LE Deadpool, with a sideboard of Cable/Deadpool to Merge to, and after checking on it's legality, went with the fully Gauntleted C/D Duo. It was all above board.

Move of the tournament was when the Erad/Supes player had based his opponent with PoShip Superman, and had his damaged Erad backed up. The other player used his Mind Gem to MC PoShip Supes, who then Charged his own Eradicator and KO'd him.
Winning team was Derek (maybe spelled wrong) from Ohio! Congrats!
FF Supes + Full IG
2x Johnny Quick
beat
FF Supes + Full IG (maybe on Supergirl?)
Supergirl
Next table over was Red Skull + Gamma Bomb, Technician, and 2 Hydra guys. I think there's points missing, but I didn't see anyone else. Maybe it was the Cosmic Cube Red Skull?
vs
Eradicator + full IG
Piece of Ship Supes.
I second that. DexCon was last weekend. The new rulebook, which includes Split/Merge was legal as of July 1st. That should've been legal.
On top of that, that's an AMAZING team and strategy. I'm so impressed with that. Good for him, I hope he qualified for GenCon, got an awesome LE, and got laid.
Phi Gamma Delta - FIJI - Est. 1848.
Proud to be a Phi Gam.

I assume it's because CW hasn't released yet. But I still don't see why that should matter. Technically that is the first set with Tiny in it, and I assume split/merge is more official in CW, but yea it's in the rulebook.
I said Asterix for the Deadpool/Cable because the guy had one idea and didn't get to test it, could be a great Tourney winning team but we won't know until 10 days and it becomes legal so not saying anything shady happen just guy didn't get to play team as conceived

I may be misreading the rule, but split states:
"Give this character a power action if it has no action tokens. Replace this character with one or more qualifying characters each from a different entry listed on this character’s character card."
It grants them split, but their card does not list any qualifying names or identities.

The reason they can't use it is because none of the old duo cards have qualifying characters listed on them. We have to wait till the new players guide to errata all the old duo cards to have the qualifying characters listed on them so they can actually use Split and Merge to change.
