Could we get an explanation for dropping the ball on Chaos Wars' sub-themes?
I don't expect a response, so consider this thrown into the ether, to be answered by whomever or nobody.
With the deluge of product that has come out this year, along with 'life stuff' coming along (like attempting to get married), I'm watching what I buy Heroclix-wise more closely. In fact, to pay off my brick of Dark Knight Rises, I sold my chase Thanos and Doom (which also left over some to pre-order Chaos War...more on that).
With even more product coming out this year, I would emplore WZ to be more open about the contents of future sets, especially since you're getting use to buy in on these sets without much forward knowledge of what to expect. This is even harder when you fabricate information on what to expect from said sets.
I'm a huge Pet Avengers fan. Yeah, not many people are, but the comic minis they have been in have always been fun reads with endearing characters.
Also, who doesn't love a frog with a tiny viking helmet and hammer?
I was on the fence about how much Chaos War I was going to buy initially, especially considering nobody could really tell what the set was going to be due to the name changes, release date changes, and general lack of information on the direction of said set. However, when the solicitations came out saying that a sub-theme was going to be Pet Avengers, I was excited.
For those that don't know what a sub-theme is, it is usually a collection of figures that are related to the main theme of the set, but in a smaller amount. Allow me to show by example of the last few sets:
Galactic Guardians:
Nova Corp: Nova (two versions), Super Nova, Nova Prime, and Nova recruit, denarian, and Centurian.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Adam Warlock, Drax, Charlie-27, Hollywood, Nikki, Cosmo, Drax, Keeper, etc.
Universal Church of Truth: Cardinal Raker, UCT Cardinal, Magus, Replica
Incredible Hulk:
Hulked Out Heroes, Intelligencia, Marvel Knights, Fantastic Four
Superman:
Reign of the Superman, Legion of the Superheroes, Flashpoint.
I think you get my drift. All of these are collections of at least 3-4 figures to make up a subtheme, which then get an ATA.
So, as one can imagine, I was let down as all hell to see that the only Pet Avenger in the set is the Lockjaw/Hairball duo.
Yes, yes, "Set isn't out yet, can't comment on it, it may not be official, it isn't official to Wizkids until the set is out."
Let's not do that.
Fact is, I pre-ordered under the pretenses of Pet Avengers being in the set. I was hoping for far more than just Lockjaw, even though I think he's great and looks fun to play.
You can't even run a full team of Pet Avengers with the four that are in the game. I mean, unless you REALLY like losing.
Could we get an explanation? Was there a change of heart? I have to imagine you've been planning this set for awhile, considering that Lockjaw was shown well before Christmas, and the solicitation with the information only came out a few months ago.
Why was I lied to?
This may seem minor to most players, but in a time when I've bought a lot of product and need to find reasons to really buy new sets, I really feel hurt and let down by this. Yes, let down over a game of plastic figures. Get over it.
That's all I have to say. An explanation or rationale would be shiny. I know it won't come.
I was hoping to see more Alpha Flight. During Chaos War they were raised from the dead, brought back into mainstream comic stories, even members of the central God Squad, which the story focused around. Also do like Pet Avengers, more please. Oh and God Squad would be a great Key word!
Eh, I didn't get one of the Hulk's most enduring (and original) villains (Tyrannus) in a Hulk set, but I DID get 4x Punisher, John Jameson, etc. ::shrugs:: Kinda sucks, but what can ya do?
2013 Drunken HeroClix Champion! The belt has been retained!
Be thankful that I just get the privilege of being a consumer? Hardly.
Some will automatically say that "You should just be glad that these obscure characters get made", however, that is the M.O. if this game: wacky character selections and obscure people. Otherwise, every set would just be a new Cap, Iron Man, and Thor...
Whoops. Too late, I guess.
Anyways, this is more a matter of false advertising than it is anything. In that regard, I have nothing to be thankful for. While I am glad that one of my favorite characters IS getting made, it doesn't take away from the fact that it's not what was advertised.
Well, nearly all the pieces have been previewed, but there's still a couple that haven't. I'm personally hoping for a new Constrictor and Boomerang.
@EyePawed
Sorry, but I just get annoyed at all the negativity goin' around the realms, recently. Yeah, I guess I would be annoyed if I had no way of previewing the set pieces, but you CAN check the rumors section, ya know...

....Huh?
You do know the entire set has been spoiled, yeah?

To be fair most of the character selection was already confirmed well before the release of the set. We had more of an idea where the set was going.
Personally, when I read Pet Avengers were in the set, I hoped it was relegated to just Lockjaw and Hairball, as I didn't care for the others to eat up character slots. But this is just my opinion, and I understand that a lot of people wanted the full roster.
I run HeroClix tournaments every 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month at The Realm Games and Comics in Brea, California. The format of each tournament will be posted here.
Our Fear Itself prizing for The Realm will include the 2012 Punisher Con LE, Giant-Man Con LE, and Shuma Gorath Con LE.
hmmm...I'd be happy as crazy if they announced Midnight Sons as a Sub-theme...even if it turns out they'd only put a Spirits of Vengeance (Ghost Rider/Blaze) duo in there...because as I see it this awesome figure will never see the light of day...

Understandable, and I'm certainly not going to argue preference. If it were up to me, there'd be an entire set of Animal clix.
My point, is that on official documentation, Pet Avengers are listed as a sub-theme. These solits are there not only to inform consumers, but to entice and sell the set.
In this instance, the advertising is false when compared to the traditional definition of what a sub-theme has been in the past.
If they had just said, "Includes figures from Pet Avengers" as opposed to actually SAYING they were a sub theme, I wouldn't be as annoyed.

Me too, but EyePawd more than has a point here. THe word "SUB-THEME" indicates at least two figs if not more.
Were I he, I would be pissed off. WK is not responsible for our pre-ordering, true, but they dropped a big ball here in waiting so long for the spoilers to hit and for not fulfilling their advertising on sub-themes.

I think they only said Pet Avengers because it justifies having the Lockjaw and Hairball duo. But I agree, they shouldn't solicit it as a sub-theme if it's only going to be one figure. We might as well say Daredevil and Punisher were sub-themes in The Incredible Hulk.

I guess that's more my point than anything. WizKids doesn't aptly prepare us as consumers for what to expect. Sure, it's a collectible game, and as such, there is an element of randomness involved. However, considering we had very little to go on as to what this set would even be about, I think everyone can at least understand the frustration.
After all, most people are still confused with the switch of the set name to Chaos War when the set has nothing to do with that particular story line. Yet another dropped ball.
This is why I think that, at the least, Wizkids should release the ATAs and maybe a spoiler free list of how many keyword specific figures there are before release. I don't need names, but if they could have said "There will be X many Pet Avengers and X many SHIELD and etc." I would have been happier.
We all spend far too much money on this game to be so uninformed and left in the dark in regards to new releases.
