The map for Infinity Gauntlet's month 8 event could not be more comic accurate. Its dedication to the source material is incredible, but admiration aside, this map presents a serious challenge to both players.

Player 1 (the player who goes first) will likely be forced to play from the bottom of the steps. Your options for opening moves are few: setup to storm the steps on your next turn, or if you have terrain-ignoring movement you can take up positions beneath the twin faces of Death and prep for an over-the-top attack. Either way, do not give in to the temptation to pass on turn 1; the worst thing you can do is try to cross the wide patio under the watchful eye of an opponent set up atop the stairs.

Player 2 has no lines of fire until they pass the middle of the map. That's a minimum of 11 squares, and even then you're firing along a restricted arc. Your advantage is you'll likely get to choose when the battle is joined; your disadvantage is that chasing down an escaping foe will be tough. Remember that even a Colossal can't see past the top of the stairs unless they're standing on the edge.

This map has 2 squares of hindering, but lots of blocking that can be broken if necessary. Keep in mind that this map is outdoors, which frees up fliers to swoop over the walls.

Good luck to everyone in this important event! If you've got rules questions pertaining to this map, post them in the comments so you don't build your team under false pretenses. Think twice before commenting about strategies you intend to use on this map, however. Your opponents are watching!

Unless you are playing against a Chase Thanos killbox. In that case, I'd say you almost have to pass on turn 1.

Sentroid will like this map ... so I won't.

Actually I really like it; comic accurate and it looks nice. I will like it a lot after IG finals are over.

Sentroid likes most maps... but he won't get as much use out of his range here, leaving him to use close combat HSS. At least that way he's closer.

This map is terrible for sentroid. Not that any map makes him terrible, but it is easier to catch him on this map. from 9H, Genis-Vel can runningshot to a wide range of the squares.

Don't be confused by its appearance. This is not an Indoor/Outdoor map. It is Outdoor. That blocking terrain will not stop a flier from popping in and taking you by surprise.

Why is that? Am I missing something on the map?

GREAT SIZE
This character can use , , O and can’t be knocked back. When
this character makes a close combat attack, it may target characters on higher elevations. This character may draw lines of fire (and have lines of fire drawn to it) as if the character occupied the elevation equal to or greater than the elevation it occupies, using the elevation level with the least restrictive line of fire. This ability can’t be countered.

the OP is saying that a collosal on the top half cant see down onto the lower elevation unless he is on the edge. Great Size does not change that, but a Collosal on the bottom half can see people on the elevated terrain regardless of whether the opponents are on the edge or not.

Question I have is involving Sentry/Void's ability to bring down elevated terrain to level 1. Does the elevated blocking terrain become hindering?

Yes. What you're missing is the rules of elevation: you cannot see from 3 to 1 if a square of 2 blocks your line of fire.

also, first responder is correct in clarifying my intent. As I was talking about the team starting in the shrine, what I was saying was meant to be about colossals on 2 shooting down, not colossals on 1 shooting up.

Don't forget that its not just fliers that can go over that blocking terrain. Leap climb, Giants, Colossals can all surprise you by hopping over!

With only 150pts to work with, I'm not too worried about Chase Thanos. Really, only 1 of your figs are going to be ruined or both slightly damaged. In any case, figures like Hulk who can take a beating and get better will make Thanos think twice about teleporting.

Exactly. I'm not sure why he won't get to use his range much. Its an outdoor map so he can set up behind blocking, fly over, shoot and then retreat back over the blocking. If anything, figures like Ventry get even more powerful on maps that have varying elevations.

ASGARD MUST FALL: Once per game, give Sentry and Void a double power action. For the rest of the game even if this power is lost elevated terrain is considered grounded hindering terrain. Deal Sentry and Void and each character occupying elevated terrain 1 unavoidable damage.

It doesn't specify that it only effects clear terrain. So if its elevated, then it will become hindering.
