I was playing Golden Age with a couple of my friends. Now these 2 guys are great players and usually know their stuff when it comes to rules....However tonight they were both insisting on some crazy Nightcrawler ruling....Basically saying that when he usesd Teleportation Evacuation on somebody, because he was "placing" them at the end of the move, that the character would break away automatically.....??? WTF?? I explained several instances where characters were placed and did not get any such free breakaway...They both swore they had seen an orange rule on this, and it worked the way they described....Now this sounds completely nonsensical to me, but figured I would run it by the crowd here and see if someone could clarify for me, thanks!

They were right. The only time you have to break away from an opposing character is during movement. Placing isn't moving.
Do you mean that they would get free break away from NC on the next turn? That sounds incorrect. They don't need to roll break away from anyone they're already adjacent to in order to be placed by NC after he has grabbed them.
This.
I'm also a little curious about the examples of placed characters needing to break away...
Ok, I think I didnt convey my point clearly....When Nightcrawler snatches somebody, nobody has to roll break away, because they are being placed. The question comes on the opponents turn after he snatches someone....These guys were arguing that the figure who got snatched, would not have to break away from Nightcrawler, or anyone else he happened to get placed next to on the following turn....
So the examples of why this was wrong were things like;
I tk an enemy fig next to my fig and then on the opponents next turn he wants to move thatguy away, he has to roll breakaway...
I carry a grounded fig with a flyer and place him next to an enemy unit, then on the next turn I want to move him away rom said enemy unit, he still has to roll breakaway.
We all on the same page now? You only need to breakaway when moving of your own volition, but being placed in a square next to opponents figs has no bearing on having to roll breakaway on the following turn, right?

Correct, if a character was placed in a previous turn and tries to move away from an adjacent opposing figure on the current turn, it would need to roll breakaway unless it possessed a game effect that allowed it to automatically break away.

Ah, that makes things much clearer. In that case, you were correct. Even though the character was placed the previous turn, if the placed character is trying to move away from Nightcrawler, and assuming they don't have some way to automatically break away (Leap/Climb, Phasing), they have to break away.
They probably misunderstood what the Oranges said.
When NC kidnaps a figure, that figure being kidnapped does not need to break away in order to get pulled because it is being placed after NC's action resolves.
They probably took that as the kidnapped figure not needing to break away from NC on the next turn.
